Complete Connections #793 solution
Full board spoilers. These are the four groups of words:
- GROUPS OF TEN: BOWLING PINS, COMMANDMENTS, DECADE, FINGERS
- PLACES WITH LANES: BOWLING ALLEY, HIGHWAY, SUPERMARKET, SWIMMING POOL
- LANDMARKS IN DOWNTOWN NYC: BOWLING GREEN, BROOKLYN BRIDGE, CITY HALL, WALL STREET
- THINGS WITH HOLES: BOWLING BALL, COLANDER, GOLF COURSE, SPONGE
Why the board is easy to misread
Several entries begin with “BOWLING,” making a bowling theme an obvious first guess. But the words split across different categories: BOWLING PINS are a group of ten, BOWLING ALLEY has lanes, BOWLING GREEN is a downtown Manhattan landmark, and a BOWLING BALL has holes. BROOKLYN BRIDGE belongs with the other New York City landmarks, not with the hole-related words.

How Connections works
Connections asks players to sort sixteen terms into four groups of four. A TechRadar guide says the game allows up to four mistakes and can be played through NYT Games on desktop or mobile. The puzzle format is also described in a 2024 academic paper, which presents a benchmark of 358 word-classification puzzles derived from Connections. In that paper’s experimental setup—not for this specific puzzle—the best evaluated model scored 40.25% accuracy on the full-hints benchmark, compared with 60.67% for human participants.
