How the four Connections groups fit

Tournament rounds

FINAL, QUALIFIER, QUARTER, and SEMI refer to rounds or stages in a tournament.

Enormous

BUMPER, GIANT, MONSTER, and TITANIC can each describe something enormous.

Disreputable establishment

DIVE, DUMP, HOLE, and JOINT are slang terms for a disreputable or run-down establishment.

What “C” might mean

CELSIUS, COLD, ONE HUNDRED, and SEE connect to possible meanings or readings of the letter C: Celsius is a temperature scale, C can denote cold, the Roman numeral C means one hundred, and “C” is pronounced like “see.”

The red herring

Some words can suggest another association. Forbes notes a truck-related decoy involving MONSTER, SEMI, and DUMP; those words belong in the intended groups above instead. The solution depends on recognizing the specific connection for each set, not just finding a plausible shared theme.

How Connections works

Connections asks players to sort 16 words into four groups of four. The groups are identified by colors, and the puzzle can use wordplay or tempting overlaps to make a set harder to spot. Forbes describes the game as allowing three incorrect guesses before a fourth ends the game; it also allows players to share results as an emoji grid. These are general gameplay details, not a statement about current access terms for this archived puzzle.
