Connections #575, published Monday, January 6, 2025, groups the 16 words around forceful breathing, catchall terms, expressions for easy things, and words formed by removing the last letter from a synonym for “rear end.” The complete groups and the final-word trick are below.

All four Connections groups for January 6, 2025

Answer guides from TechRadar and Try Hard Guides report the following solution for game #575:

Category Words Connection
BREATHE HARD GASP, HEAVE, PANT, PUFF Words associated with forceful or labored breathing.
CATCHALL BLANKET, BROAD, GENERAL, UMBRELLA Terms for something broad or all-encompassing.
METAPHORS FOR EASY THINGS ABC, BREEZE, PICNIC, PIE Familiar expressions describing something easy.
SYNONYMS FOR REAR END MINUS LAST LETTER ARS, BOOT, BUT, RUM Each answer is a rear-end synonym with its final letter removed.

How the final group works

The purple category is a wordplay pattern rather than a set of directly synonymous answers. Start with ARSE, BOOTY, BUTT, and RUMP, then remove the final letter from each: ARS, BOOT, BUT, and RUM. The resulting forms are the words on the board.

How to read the puzzle’s connections

Connections presents 16 words to sort into four groups of four. In this puzzle, the breathing and catchall groups are based on relatively direct associations; the “easy things” group draws on common expressions, while the last group depends on changing the source words by one letter. The Times of India also describes the four-groups-of-four format and reports the complete January 6 answer: its January 6, 2025 guide.
