Connections asks players to sort 16 words into four groups that share a hidden link. For this archived puzzle, the answer key runs from straightforward recipe ingredients and red things to a rhyme-related category and four phrases ending in “candy.”

The four words are BUTTER, EGGS, FLOUR, SUGAR. Each is a familiar ingredient in a classic pound cake.
Green: Things that are red
The group is CARDINAL, ELMO, KETCHUP, ROSE: a red bird, the red Sesame Street character, a red condiment, and a red flower.

Blue: Words said to have no exact rhymes
The answers are MONTH, ORANGE, PURPLE, SILVER. The category’s wording matters: these words are said to have no exact rhymes. That is not a claim that no conceivable rhyme, coined word, or unusual pronunciation could ever be offered.
Purple: ___ candy
Complete each phrase with “candy”: COTTON candy, EYE candy, John CANDY, ROCK candy. The connection mixes common expressions with the name John Candy.
