Do you need a subscription to play Connections?
No. NYT lists the daily Connections puzzle among its games available without a Games subscription. A subscription is relevant if you want the archive or the broader set of subscriber Games features. See NYT’s Games subscription information for current access details.
How do you play past Connections puzzles?
The NYT Connections Help Center says eligible All Access and Games subscribers can play the archive back to June 12, 2023. That is the stated archive start date; access can depend on account and platform, so check the subscription details for the option available to you.
In the NYT Games app for iOS and Android, archive games and special features are available under the Games tab. NYT describes subscriber access as full and non-subscriber access as limited. Subscription plans bill every 28 days or annually and renew automatically unless canceled; consult NYT’s current subscription page for pricing and terms.

How do hints and mistakes work?
NYT’s Connections Help Center describes statistics that group completed puzzles by zero to four mistakes. The available official information does not establish the exact submission limit, the precise response to a near-miss guess, or a separate in-game hint feature. Don’t assume a hint or answer page on another website is an official NYT tool.
If you want help without giving away the solution, use third-party hint pages cautiously: they may reveal more than intended, and their clues and answers are not NYT’s official game guidance. For the rules and feedback currently shown in the game itself, follow the instructions on the puzzle screen.

Why did my Connections streak reset?
NYT says completing a puzzle after midnight in your local time breaks the streak and starts a new one. The cutoff is local rather than one universal global time, so a late-night solve may count differently for players in different time zones.
How do you keep progress and stats across devices?
When you play while logged out, NYT stores progress locally, and that data may be lost. Logging in lets you access saved progress, statistics, and streaks across devices. If a streak or board appears missing, distinguish a late solve that crossed local midnight from progress that was not saved to an account.
