Hints for Connections #332

Connections asks you to sort 16 words into four groups of four, each tied together by a shared theme. The New York Times describes it as “a word game that challenges players to find themes between words.” The categories are color-coded from yellow, the easiest, to purple, the trickiest, and words can seem to fit more than one group. NYT Help Center

  • Yellow: Think of shades of red.
  • Green: A small amount of a drink; as the clue puts it, “us Scots refer to this as a ‘wee swallie’”.
  • Blue: Words meaning finest, prime, or elite.
  • Purple: Each word can come before “bath.”

Answers for May 8 (#332)

Spoilers below: the category names and all 16 answers follow.

Yellow — Shades of red

BRICK, CHERRY, ROSE, RUBY

Green — Little bit of a beverage

Blue — Choicest

Purple — ___ bath

BIRD, BUBBLE, MUD, SPONGE

The purple set completes familiar phrases: bird bath, bubble bath, mud bath, and sponge bath. MUD is the answer, rather than MOD: Forbes’ initial word bank includes MUD, and Try Hard Guides independently lists it in the bath group. Forbes answer guide; Try Hard Guides answer guide
