Try each hint before moving to the next. They point toward the category without revealing its four words.
- Yellow: A short-lived feeling of excitement.
- Green: A verb meaning to put up with something.
- Blue: Another word for claptrap or nonsense.
- Purple: These can make satisfying, brief sounds when used.

Tips for solving this puzzle
Check every word in a possible group
STOMACH, TRIPE and TONGUE may suggest a body-part or food grouping, but they belong to three different answers. Likewise, KICK, RUSH and TAKE can evoke sports, yet they do not make a complete category together. A tempting three-word connection is not enough: verify that the fourth word fits the same relationship before submitting.
Watch for overlapping meanings
Words can fit more than one association, which is part of the challenge. Consider each candidate group as a whole and look for a precise shared meaning rather than settling on the first plausible link.

How Connections works and where to play
Connections presents 16 words for sorting into four groups of four. You can make up to four mistakes before the game ends. The New York Times says the daily puzzle releases at midnight in the player’s time zone and can be played on the web, in the Games app, at nytimes.com/theathletic, and in the News app. See the NYT Help Center’s Connections page for current details.
