Yellow — Quantity

AMOUNT, COUNT, NUMBER, TOTAL

Green — Incident

AFFAIR, EPISODE, EVENT, MATTER

Blue — Things received in the mail

BILL, CARD, CATALOG, LETTER

Purple — What “spring” might refer to

BOUNCE, COIL, GEYSER, SEASON

How the groups fit

Quantity and incident each collect words with related meanings: an amount can be a count, number, or total, while an incident can be an affair, episode, event, or matter. The mail group gathers common items delivered to a home. The final group uses different meanings of “spring”: a bounce, a coil, a geyser, or the season.

How to replay the puzzle

Connections presents 16 words and asks players to sort them into four groups of four sharing a theme. The groups are color-coded yellow, green, blue, and purple; the New York Times describes yellow as easiest and purple as trickiest. Its editors curate categories using the Oxford Dictionary. See the NYT Connections Help Center for the rules and current play options.

The daily puzzle releases at midnight in the player’s timezone. The Help Center lists the NYT Games app, nytimes.com/games/connections, NYTimes.com/theathletic, and the News app as places to play.

The NYT archive extends back to June 12, 2023, and is available to All Access and Games subscribers. Archived play counts toward puzzle statistics but not current or maximum streaks, and a completed archive puzzle cannot be replayed. The Help Center has the archive access details.
