How the groups fit
HERBS AND SPICES
ANISE, DILL, MACE, and SAGE are culinary herbs or flavorings.
SHADES OF GREEN
Add “green” after each word: bottle green, hunter green, Kelly green, and pea green.
TRAVEL ON FOOT
HIKE, MARCH, TRAMP, and TREK can each describe walking or making a journey on foot.
STARTS OF EUROPEAN CAPITALS
Each entry is the beginning of a capital’s name: COPE for Copenhagen, LUXE for Luxembourg, SARA for Sarajevo, and WARS for Warsaw. The category uses name beginnings, not complete city names.

The tempting decoy
TREK and WARS may suggest Star Trek and Star Wars, but they belong in different groups: TREK fits the walking terms, while WARS begins Warsaw. For the green set, look for a shared word that follows all four entries. More generally, test a clear category against all four words before locking it in; a familiar phrase can make a plausible but misleading pairing.
