This is the New York Times Connections puzzle for June 21, 2024, puzzle #376—not the current daily puzzle. Below are graduated hints first, followed by the complete solution. Stop before the spoiler notice if you want to solve it yourself.

What are the Connections hints for June 21?

NYT Connections gives players 16 words to sort into four groups of four, each linked by a shared property. The hints below follow the puzzle’s categories from easiest to trickiest without listing the answer words.

  1. Amusement park rides
  2. Approval
  3. Types of come-from-behind stories
  4. Beginning with synonyms for rear end

How to solve Connections #376

Look for sets of four that share a precise connection, then check whether any word could plausibly belong to another set before submitting. The New York Times Help Center says each puzzle has exactly one solution and is made tricky by including words that could fit multiple categories. Its color order runs from yellow, the easiest group, through green and blue to purple, the trickiest.

For the last hint, read “beginning with” literally: the answers start with bumper, butt, rump, or tail, each a word that can refer to a rear end. The game’s words and categories are curated by editors using the Oxford Dictionary, according to the New York Times Help Center.
