Full answers for June 26, 2025

Spoilers below: the complete groups and all 16 words are listed here.

  • Yellow — Components of a salad: CHEESE, DRESSING, LETTUCE, PROTEIN
  • Green — Kinds of machines: ENIGMA, PINBALL, SEWING, VENDING
  • Blue — Legal dramas: DAMAGES, GOLIATH, MATLOCK, SUITS
  • Purple — Ending with playing cards: BOJACK, HAWKING, LOVELACE, MCQUEEN

Why the purple group fits

The trick is to take the final letters of each word as a card name: BOJACK ends in JACK, HAWKING in KING, LOVELACE in ACE, and MCQUEEN in QUEEN. The other groups use more direct meanings: salad components, types of machines, and television legal dramas.

How Connections works

Connections asks you to sort 16 words into four groups of four. The groups are color-coded from yellow, generally the easiest, through purple, generally the trickiest. Some words may seem to fit more than one category, but each puzzle has one solution, according to the NYT Help Center.

The game is available on NYT Games platforms, including the website and app, and a new puzzle releases at midnight in your local timezone. The archive goes back to June 12, 2023; access to archived puzzles requires an All Access or Games subscription, according to the NYT Help Center.
