Connections #279 answers
Spoilers below.
| Category | Words |
|---|---|
| Get smaller | CONTRACT, LESSEN, REDUCE, SHRINK |
| Airline classes | BUSINESS, COACH, FIRST, PREMIUM |
| Examine, as an applicant | CHECK, REVIEW, SCREEN, VET |
| Notable TV episodes | FINALE, PILOT, PREMIERE, SPECIAL |
Why two groups can be easy to mix up
FIRST, PILOT, and PREMIERE all suggest beginnings, so they may look like a group. In this puzzle, PILOT and PREMIERE instead belong with FINALE and SPECIAL as notable TV episodes; FIRST goes with the airline-class words. PREMIUM fits that group as in “premium economy,” alongside BUSINESS and COACH.

How Connections works
Connections gives you 16 words and asks you to sort them into four groups of four that share a connection. The New York Times Help Center says the color-coded groups range from yellow, the easiest, to purple, the trickiest. Some words may appear to fit more than one category, but each puzzle has one solution. The game releases at midnight in the player’s timezone. See the NYT Help Center’s Connections page for current play and access details.
The NYT Help Center says the archive reaches back to June 12, 2023, with access for eligible subscribers. Availability and terms can change; check NYT Games for the current requirements.
