How Connections works

The New York Times Help Center says each puzzle presents 16 words to sort into four groups of four. Every group has a color, ordered from yellow (easiest) to purple (trickiest). There is one solution, though some words can appear to fit more than one category. NYT Help Center: Connections.

Where to play and access past puzzles

A new Connections puzzle releases at midnight in the player’s timezone. The NYT Help Center lists the NYT Games app, nytimes.com/games/connections, NYTimes.com/theathletic and the News app as places to play.

The official archive goes back to June 12, 2023, and is available to All Access and Games subscribers, according to the Help Center. Playing archive puzzles affects some statistics but not streaks, and a completed archive puzzle cannot be replayed.
