NYT Connections #719 was the Friday, May 30, 2025 puzzle. Below are four spoiler-light clues, followed by the complete groups and answers. The purple category is a phrase-completion play on “shack.”
Spoiler-light hints for Connections #719
Try each clue before revealing the word groups:
- A long, slender piece of wood.
- Items that can be wrapped or packaged in a similar manner.
- Things you might receive at a special event or job conference.
- Words that come before a common five-letter noun for a roughly built house, cabin, or hut.
These clues correspond, in order, to the yellow, green, blue, and purple groups. Parade published the puzzle’s clues and answers on May 30, 2025; TechRadar independently reports the same solution.

Spoilers below.
| Color | Category | Words | Why they fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yellow | RODS | BAT, CLUB, STAFF, STICK | Each can refer to a rod. |
| Green | THEY’RE ON A ROLL! | FOIL, RIBBON, TAPE, TOILET PAPER | Each can come in roll form. |
| Blue | COMMON SWAG ITEMS | HAT, TEE, TOTE, WATER BOTTLE | These are familiar promotional giveaway items. |
| Purple | WORDS BEFORE “SHACK” | CADDY, LOVE, RADIO, SHAKE | The phrases are “Caddy Shack,” “Love Shack,” “Radio Shack,” and “Shake Shack.” |
Parade’s answer guide lists these four groups, and TechRadar cross-checks the same words and categories: Parade’s May 30, 2025 Connections answers and TechRadar’s game #719 guide.
Why the purple group is easy to misread
“Radio” can pull attention toward other associations, but the category depends on the word that follows it: “Radio Shack.” The same phrase-completion pattern explains “Caddy Shack,” “Love Shack,” and “Shake Shack.” The answer is not a shared kind of object; it is a shared second word.

The answer-guide sources do not provide a puzzle-specific solve rate, average score, or player-difficulty statistic for #719, so there is no substantiated number to report. A 2024 paper by Angel Yahir Loredo Lopez, Tyler McDonald, and Ali Emami introduced a benchmark made from 358 Connections-derived puzzles; in the paper’s tested configurations, the top evaluated language models fell short of human performance by nearly 30%. Those are results about that research benchmark and its evaluations, not ordinary NYT players or this particular puzzle. See the authors’ 2024 arXiv paper.
