How this Connections puzzle works

Connections is a daily New York Times category-matching game. Players sort 16 words into four groups of four. The categories use four difficulty colors—yellow, green, blue and purple—and misleading overlaps or wordplay can make an apparent group look plausible even when it is not the intended one.

For this edition, the most literal entries are the responsibility and corners groups. The Popeye category depends on association rather than a single word pattern, while the final group is solved by completing compounds ending in “sheet.”
