  • Yellow — SHORT PERIOD OF TIME: BIT, FLASH, JIFF, SEC
  • Green — DO WRONG: ERR, FALL, SIN, STRAY
  • Blue — N.B.A. PLAYER: BUCK, NET, SPUR, SUN
  • Purple — STARTS OF AFRICAN COUNTRIES: BOTS, CAME, KEN, TAN

Why the purple group works

Each purple entry begins a country name: BOTS becomes Botswana, CAME becomes Cameroon, KEN becomes Kenya, and TAN becomes Tanzania. The green group uses verbs meaning to do wrong: to err, fall, sin, or stray.

How Connections works

The New York Times Help Center describes Connections as a game in which players sort 16 words into four groups of four. The groups are color-coded by difficulty, from Yellow (easiest) to Purple (trickiest), and some words can appear to fit more than one category. The daily puzzle becomes available at midnight in the player’s timezone. NYT Help Center: Connections
