NYT Connections for Saturday, June 14, 2025, is game #734. The board contains 16 words that must be sorted into four groups of four. If you want to solve it yourself, use the graduated hints first; the complete groups and explanations appear below the spoiler warning.
Connections allows four mistakes before the game ends. Its four category colors generally move from easier to harder, with the purple group often relying on wordplay rather than a straightforward theme. Forbes’ June 13 guide and WordHint’s June 14 archive entry identify this puzzle as #734.

Answers for NYT Connections #734
Spoilers below. The four groups use four different types of connection: descriptive titles, a cultural image, named screen characters and compound breed names.
Yellow: GODDESS
DIVA, ICON, LEGEND, QUEEN
Each word can describe a celebrated, admired or exalted woman. “Goddess” is the category label tying the four honorific descriptions together; the words are not all literal synonyms, which is why this group can compete with other plausible combinations on the board.
Green: ELEMENTS OF A CLASSIC “MOM” TATTOO
ARROW, HEART, MOM, RIBBON
A traditional heart-and-banner tattoo commonly features the word MOM, a ribbon or banner, and decorative motifs such as an arrow and heart. Here the connection is a recognizable cultural object rather than four synonyms.

Blue: DOGS OF THE SCREEN
ASTRO, BLUE, HOOCH, TOTO
These are recognizable fictional dog names: Astro from The Jetsons, Blue from Blue’s Clues, Hooch from Turner & Hooch, and Toto from The Wizard of Oz. The category depends on identifying characters across different television and film eras.
Purple: ___ TERRIER
BORDER, BOSTON, BULL, RAT
Add “terrier” after each board word: Border Terrier, Boston Terrier, Bull Terrier and Rat Terrier. This is the puzzle’s most wordplay-heavy group because the four entries are prefixes in recognized breed names, not members of one obvious semantic class.

| Group | Connection type | Words |
|---|---|---|
| GODDESS | Descriptive titles for a celebrated woman | DIVA, ICON, LEGEND, QUEEN |
| Classic “MOM” tattoo | Cultural object and its imagery | ARROW, HEART, MOM, RIBBON |
| Dogs of the screen | Named fictional characters | ASTRO, BLUE, HOOCH, TOTO |
| ___ TERRIER | Words that become breeds when followed by “Terrier” | BORDER, BOSTON, BULL, RAT |
The board deliberately mixes familiar standalone words with entries that become useful only in a phrase. “Blue,” “Bull” and “Heart,” for example, can suggest several themes until the surrounding words narrow the possibilities. A reliable solving approach is to test a suspected group against every remaining word and reject it if a fourth member requires a strained interpretation.
How to approach a difficult Connections board
- Mark the most concrete set. A cluster of recognizable names, such as the screen dogs here, is usually safer than a broad synonym group.
- Look for phrase completions. If several words seem unrelated, try common words that can follow or precede each one; that exposes the terrier group.
- Separate literal words from design elements. The tattoo category combines an object, a label and motifs, so it is easier to see once “MOM” is treated as part of an image rather than as a general family term.
- Use the remaining four words to verify the last category. Connections permits four mistakes, so submit only after the proposed group has a clean fourth match.
Quick result
For Saturday, June 14, 2025, the solved groups are GODDESS; elements of a classic “MOM” tattoo; dogs of the screen; and ___ TERRIER. The puzzle is #734.
