Hints for Connections #813
Use these progressively: the first set describes each group; the second offers a more conversational clue. A representative answer for each group is included as a stronger nudge.
- Yellow: When it begins. More conversationally: “Never saw you before!” Representative word: LAUNCH.
- Green: National day. More conversationally: “Sometimes we get a day off.” Representative word: PRESIDENT.
- Blue: Wordsmiths. More conversationally: “Like Robert Frost.” Representative word: LORDE.
- Purple: Linked by a word associated with red. More conversationally: “Not the Pope, but…ones.” Representative word: BIRD.

Why the last two groups can mislead
LORDE is Audre Lorde, the poet, rather than the New Zealand singer. In the purple group, “cardinal” points to several meanings: a bird, a clergy member, and a player associated with the St. Louis Cardinals in Major League Baseball or the Arizona Cardinals in the NFL. The different senses can make it tempting to force the tiles into a single religious or leadership theme instead.

The New York Times Help Center says, “The daily Connections game is released daily at midnight in your timezone.” The game is available through NYTimes.com and the Games app. The NYT Connections archive goes back to June 12, 2023 and is available to All Access and Games subscribers, according to the New York Times Help Center. An NYT account is required for archived progress and history; playing archived puzzles affects some statistics but not streaks, and a completed archived puzzle cannot be replayed.
