How Connections works

The groups are color-coded by difficulty, from yellow (easiest) to purple (trickiest). The daily puzzle releases at midnight in the player’s timezone. NYT’s Help Center says the Connections archive goes back to June 12, 2023 and is available to All Access and Games subscribers. Archive solves affect puzzle statistics but not streaks, and a completed archived puzzle cannot be replayed. Connections Bot, which provides difficulty, ratings, category, mistake, and guess-by-guess information, is also limited to All Access, Home Delivery, and Games subscribers. These access terms were listed by the Help Center as of October 8, 2026 and may change. NYT Help Center: Connections
TechRadar contributor Johnny Dee described this puzzle as hard and reported making three mistakes. That is one player’s account, not a published solve-rate or a measure of how players performed overall. He said he identified the wine vessels first, recognized three snake entries before spotting GARTER, and then worked through the divided-word group.
