What makes this board tricky
The overlap is in ordinary associations: ELEMENTARY can sound like a synonym for EASY, but here it belongs with words that precede “school.” HALLOWEEN and MAGIC SHOW point toward tricks, while the other two answers in that group are CON GAME and HEARTS.

How Connections works
The New York Times Help Center explains that players receive 16 words and must sort them into four groups of four. Groups are marked yellow, green, blue, and purple, from easiest to trickiest; some words are deliberately chosen because they could appear to fit more than one group. The official Connections help page says the daily puzzle releases at midnight in the player’s timezone and is available on the web, in the Games app, and in the News app.
That local release time can mean a puzzle’s calendar date differs by timezone. The official archive reaches back to June 12, 2023, and the Help Center says archive access is available to All Access and Games subscribers.
