Try these clues in order, stopping when you have enough to solve a group:
- Think about what might go into a healthy cold dish.
- These are all mechanical, but not the same kind.
- Each points to a television show about lawyers or the legal system.
- Look at the ends of the names: each finishes with the name of a playing card.

Why the trickiest group works
The purple category uses the last part of each name: BOJACK ends in JACK, HAWKING in KING, LOVELACE in ACE, and MCQUEEN in QUEEN. Each ending names a playing card. HAWKING and MCQUEEN can look like a pair of famous people, but that reading does not explain all four words.

How the other categories fit
Yellow: components of a salad
CHEESE, DRESSING, LETTUCE, and PROTEIN can all be salad components. The category describes possible ingredients, not a claim that every salad contains all four.
Green: kinds of machines
ENIGMA, PINBALL, SEWING, and VENDING each form a type of machine. The variety is part of the challenge: the words are not all examples of one household appliance or one use.

Blue: legal dramas
DAMAGES, GOLIATH, MATLOCK, and SUITS are television series titles associated with legal drama, rather than general legal vocabulary.

Connections asks you to divide sixteen words into four sets of four linked by a shared theme. A plausible-looking trio is not enough: verify that the rule accounts for all four words, then check whether another word could fit just as well. If five words seem to belong, reconsider the theme or look for alternate meanings and phrase endings before submitting.
