Why the groups can be tricky
The green tiles form the familiar tongue twister when read together. A fairground-looking decoy may emerge from FERRIS, BUMPER, ROLLER, and MERRY, but those words belong to different groups: BUMPER is part of the tongue twister, ROLLER is luggage, and FERRIS and MERRY fit elsewhere. The movie-title names can be easier to place once the other sets are identified.

Use BUGGY and DUFFEL for the tiles. Parade’s category heading has a BUGGER typo even though its tile list gives BUGGY, and its answer set uses DUFFLE. TechRadar, TheWordFinder, and the archive listing support BUGGY and DUFFEL.

Puzzle number and source note
Contemporaneous guides identify the September 23 puzzle as #835. One archive search result gives #879 for that date, but that conflicts with same-date coverage and the neighboring September 22–24 entries. No official NYT archive page for this historical puzzle was available to confirm the number, so #835 is the supported identification rather than an official confirmation.
The clue descriptions above are editorial paraphrases from contemporaneous guides, not verified official NYT clue text. The answer groups and tile spellings are supported by multiple secondary pages.
