How Connections works

Connections presents 16 words and asks you to sort them into four groups of four that share a theme. The New York Times Help Center says the groups use four difficulty colors: yellow is easiest and purple is trickiest. The game releases at midnight in the player’s local timezone. See the NYT Help Center explanation of Connections for its rules and current play options.

Where to play or revisit the puzzle

The Help Center lists the Games app, nytimes.com/games/connections, nytimes.com/theathletic, and the News app as places to play. It also says the Connections archive reaches back to June 12, 2023, with full-archive access available to All Access and Games subscribers. Archive access is therefore distinct from playing the current daily puzzle; check the NYT’s current terms for the latest availability.
