Spoiler-light hints for Connections #830
Try to form groups before reading the solutions. The four themes are:
- Yellow: Keen, enthusiastic, or “into it.”
- Green: Furnish, supply, or get something ready.
- Blue: Organizations or brands whose logos feature stars.
- Purple: Say the words aloud; they sound like figures from Genesis.
Complete answers for September 18, 2025
Spoiler warning: The full solution is below.
| Color | Category | Words |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow | INTO IT | DOWN, EAGER, GAME, WILLING |
| Green | FURNISH | EQUIP, OUTFIT, PREPARE, READY |
| Blue | Organizations with stars in their logos | N.F.L., NASA, PARAMOUNT, SUBARU |
| Purple | Homophones of Genesis figures | ABLE (Abel), CANE (Cain), EAVE (Eve), NOAA (Noah) |
Why this board is deceptive
Separate enthusiasm from preparation
READY, WILLING, EAGER, and ABLE can all sound like answers to a question about being prepared or capable. The intended split is narrower: WILLING and EAGER join DOWN and GAME in the enthusiasm group, while READY belongs with EQUIP, OUTFIT, and PREPARE as a furnishing or preparation verb.
Use sound, not spelling, for purple
ABLE, CANE, EAVE, and NOAA are not grouped by their written forms. Spoken aloud, they echo Abel, Cain, Eve, and Noah. That sound-alike mechanism is the key to the hardest category.
#1 Best Overall
Spot the shared star motif
The blue set points to the NFL, NASA, Paramount, and Subaru, whose visual identities incorporate or depict stars. The logos do not use an identical design; the connection is the recurring star image.
How NYT Connections works
Connections gives you 16 words and asks you to divide them into four groups of four. A correct group is based on a shared idea, which may be a straightforward definition or a lateral association. Distractor groupings are deliberate, so a word that appears to fit several themes must be tested against the remaining tiles.
The colors indicate relative difficulty in the usual order: yellow is easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. For this puzzle, the color order mirrors the solving path: identify the broad enthusiasm and preparation meanings, recognize the star-logo association, then rely on pronunciation for the Genesis names.
How difficult was puzzle #830?
All Things How reported a 3.4 out of 5 difficulty rating from the NYT Connections Companion tester. That is a secondary report, not an official NYT statistic. Beebom’s author gave the puzzle a personal 4 out of 5; that number is an individual opinion rather than a measured score.
