Hints for December 11, 2024
Connections Sports Edition is described as a daily puzzle with 16 sports-related tiles divided into four hidden groups of four. These clues point toward the categories without giving away every tile:
- Yellow: Four numbers or outcomes recorded in hockey.
- Green: Four sports associated with the Summer Olympics.
- Blue: Countries that hosted the last four men’s FIFA World Cups, according to the puzzle’s category.
- Purple: Sports events or plays connected to the number three.
The puzzle is played on The Athletic, according to SportsMonkie’s explainer, which describes it as more dependent on sports knowledge than the main Connections game’s word associations.

The archive’s labels provide the intended connections. In the first group, the terms are hockey statistics. The second group includes golf, fencing, handball, and rowing as the archive’s Summer Olympic sports set. The third joins the four host countries named by the category. In the final group, the sports-specific connection is three: a hat trick, a strikeout, a triathlon, and a turkey.

Why the title says #79
The available archive records do not support treating #79 as another identifier for the December 11 puzzle. HintPulse dates #85 to December 11, 2024, and #79 to December 5, 2024. An independent archive index associates December 11 with the same category themes as #85. A Reddit discussion for December 11 also contains community references to “Puzzle #79,” but it does not establish why that number appears alongside the date. The discrepancy is therefore worth noting rather than silently merging the two identifiers.
