Why the grid could mislead
Several words support more than one plausible reading. SLIDE and PICK fit the guitar set, but they can also suggest playground or fairground equipment; CAROUSEL and the other airport terms can make a different kind of attraction seem possible. Before submitting a group, check that every word fits the same precise idea, rather than relying on one strong association. The game’s four colors mark ascending difficulty from yellow through purple, and overlap between meanings is one way it creates misleading possibilities. The COLING paper on Connections discusses these overlapping categories and false groupings.

What Connections asks players to do
Connections presents 16 words and asks players to sort them into four groups linked by a shared theme. The New York Times Help Center’s Connections page explains the game and where it is available on NYT platforms.
If you want more puzzles in print, Simon & Schuster lists Connections: Find the Common Threads in 100+ Puzzles of Wit and Wordplay, by The New York Times Games and Wyna Liu. It is a separate book of puzzles, not a copy of this daily grid.
