NYT Connections answers for February 7, 2025

Green: THINGS MADE OF RUBBER

  • BALLOON
  • ERASER
  • GALOSH
  • TIRE

A balloon, eraser, galosh, and tire are all familiar rubber items. A galosh is a waterproof overshoe or boot, making it the least everyday word in this group for some players.

Blue: ASSOCIATED WITH THE GENIE IN ALADDIN

  • BLUE
  • EARRING
  • LAMP
  • WISHES

This category is based on references associated with Disney’s Aladdin, rather than four objects or synonyms of the same type. The Genie is blue, appears from a lamp, grants wishes, and is associated with the character’s distinctive earring.

Purple: RED ___

  • BULL
  • CROSS
  • HERRING
  • VELVET

Add red before each word: Red Bull, Red Cross, red herring, and red velvet.

The biggest traps in Connections #607

The control-themed group is relatively compact, but HEAD, LEAD, DIRECT, and RUN can be difficult to recognize as a set because they function differently in sentences. They are all valid ways to express being in charge.

There is also a strong film-related false grouping. BLUE and VELVET appear together in Blue Velvet, while ERASER and HEAD suggest Eraserhead. That makes four words look as though they belong to a David Lynch-themed category, even though the intended groups use those words elsewhere.

HERRING is another effective distraction. “Red herring” is such a familiar phrase that it may feel like a special standalone expression rather than one entry in a broader “red ___” pattern. Once the color construction appears, however, BULL, CROSS, and VELVET complete the group.

The blue category is the puzzle’s most indirect connection: BLUE, EARRING, LAMP, and WISHES all point to the Genie in Aladdin, but they do not share a literal word relationship in the way the yellow and purple groups do.
