January 9 Pips hints
Pips is a domino-placement puzzle: fill the board with dominoes while meeting the condition shown in each colored region. Conditions can require an exact total, equal values, different values, or a total greater or less than a stated number. The dated rule summary is from Daze Puzzle.
Easy — grid 522
The archive’s opening hint is “Just do it.” For a more useful nudge, start with extreme sum requirements and the uniquely available zero pip. Use the zero to anchor a strict upper-bound region, then reason across adjoining sum and inequality regions. Keep scarce pip values available for the equal region.
Medium — grid 546
Start with the fixed high sum and the zero pip. The light-blue 17 region needs the 6–6 domino and a 5; the yellow 14 region totals 5+5+4. The green less-than-1 region must use the unique 2–0 domino, with 0 in that region. Then use the interacting constraints to work through the equal and greater-than regions.

Every colored region is an equal region and needs four domino halves. There are only four doubles—5–5, 4–4, 2–2, and 1–1—and only three dominoes containing a 6. The archive’s key deduction is that 6s therefore belong in blank cells, not in the equal regions.

- Place 1–6 horizontally with 1 in the red less-than-2 region.

The dated hints point to a practical order of operations: begin with the most constrained regions, then let their forced dominoes narrow options across shared boundaries. On this date, counting rare values matters particularly on Hard, where the number of doubles and dominoes containing 6 constrains where those values can go.
