NYT Strands for Wednesday, August 5, 2026, is puzzle #885. The theme clue is “All things considered.” Start with the hints below if you want to solve it yourself; the spangram and full answer list are farther down.

Hints for Strands #885

The theme points to mental products or ways of thinking: ideas, beliefs, and conclusions. The six theme answers are all related, but the clue does not name a single one directly. Wordhint’s August 5 archive describes the shared idea as mental constructs associated with possibilities, beliefs, and conclusions.

Gentle board hints

These hint words are reported by TechRadar’s August 5 guide. Try them before revealing the solution:

  • NOON
  • BORN
  • TRAINS
  • PAID
  • SORE
  • STORE

The spangram has 13 letters and connects the board’s left and right sides. TechRadar places its path from the left edge in the fourth row to the right edge in the sixth row.

Spangram answer

Spoiler: The spangram is BRAINSTORMING.

All Strands answers for August 5

Full spoilers: The six theme words are:

  • CONCEPT
  • IDEA
  • NOTION
  • OPINION
  • PLAN
  • THOUGHT

The words share the theme because each can describe a mental product or form of thinking. The answer spelling is OPINION; Parade’s guide prints “OPINON,” while TechRadar and Wordhint list OPINION. Parade’s guide also agrees on the theme clue and spangram.

How Strands hints work

In Strands, players connect adjacent letters to form words. Theme words are highlighted blue, while the spangram summarizes the theme and touches opposite sides of the board; it is highlighted yellow when found. Parade’s rules summary says finding three non-theme words earns an in-game hint that reveals letters in a theme word. Wordhint describes the board as 6×8 and says there is no limit on wrong tries. These mechanics are reported by secondary guides, not independently confirmed here.

TechRadar reports that a new puzzle appears at midnight in each player’s time zone and that Strands is playable on the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile. Availability and access terms may vary; current pricing and geographic eligibility are not established by these guides.
