NYT Strands puzzle #886 for Thursday, August 6, 2026, has the theme “Blossoming forth.” Start with the hints below if you want to solve it yourself; the full answer list and spangram are farther down.

Hints for Strands on August 6

Use these clues in order, stopping when you have enough to continue:

  1. The theme is “Blossoming forth.”
  2. A broader nudge: “Mother Nature.”
  3. The theme-word and spangram initials are CH, DO, HA, RE, MA, and FL.
  4. The spangram has 13 letters. Its path runs from the bottom edge at column one to the top edge at column five.

How the Strands puzzle works

As described in Parade’s account of the New York Times instructions, the goal is to find theme words that fill the board. The spangram describes the theme and touches two opposite sides of the grid; it can contain two words. Non-theme words earn hints at a rate of one hint for every three found. Theme words are highlighted blue and the spangram yellow. To submit a word by tapping letters, double-tap its final letter.
