Hints for Strands #244
- Theme: Think of essentials you might find at a desk or in an office.
- Spangram clue: “Stationery cupboard.”
- Spangram position: It runs horizontally from the left edge to the right edge, starting and ending on the fourth row.
- First-two-letter cues, in answer order: ST, PR, SC, PE, RU, OF.

How the spangram and hints work
Parade quotes the New York Times’ rule that the spangram describes the puzzle’s theme, touches two opposite sides of the board, and may consist of two words. In this puzzle, the continuous answer is OFFICESUPPLIES. The theme words are the office-related items that complete the board.

According to the same NYT rules as reported by Parade, finding three non-theme words earns an in-game hint. A hint reveals the letters of a theme word, which can help when you know the category but cannot locate a word on the board.
