The September 30, 2024, NYT Strands puzzle is game #211. Its theme is “Words with weight,” and the answers point to boxing weight classes. Use the hints below in order to avoid seeing the full solution too soon.
Progressive hints for Strands #211
- Theme clue: “Words with weight.”
- More specific clue: “Fly like a butterfly, sting like a bee.” Think of different classes.
- First two letters: HE, LI, BA, FE, WE, MI, CR, BO.
- Spangram hint: Pugilism. It starts at the right edge in row four and ends at the left edge in row three, according to TechRadar’s September 29, 2024 guide.

The seven theme words are HEAVY, MIDDLE, FEATHER, LIGHT, WELTER, BANTAM and CRUISER. The spangram is BOXING.
The terms fit the theme through boxing weight classes and their associated descriptors. BOXING connects the set as the spangram, while the other seven words make up the puzzle’s theme-word list. Forbes and Try Hard Guides report the same answer set. Forbes contributor Erik Kain described the puzzle as “tricky”; that is his personal reaction, not an objective difficulty rating.
