“The program can’t start because objc.dll is missing from your computer.” If Windows says “objc.dll was not found,” “could not be located,” or reports that an entry point is missing, repair the Apple software that supplied the file rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
The 60-second answer
objc.dll is an Apple-built Windows library associated with the Objective-C runtime. It is an application dependency, not a Windows system DLL. It is commonly installed through Apple Application Support alongside iTunes, Apple Devices, iCloud for Windows, or software that uses Apple device and media libraries.
Use this order:
- Identify the application named in the error.
- Repair or reinstall that Apple application.
- Use the traditional Apple installer if a legacy program expects
Common FilesAppleApple Application Support. - Match the runtime architecture to the failing program.
- Check antivirus quarantine and Event Viewer.
- Use Windows repair commands only if other Windows components are also failing.
Do not copy objc.dll into System32, SysWOW64, or the application folder unless the application’s official instructions specifically require it.
What is objc.dll?
objc.dll is a real Windows DLL shipped with Apple software. It provides part of Apple’s Objective-C runtime, which Apple applications and supporting libraries can use internally.

Typical traditional-installer locations are:
C:Program FilesCommon FilesAppleApple Application Supportobjc.dll
C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesAppleApple Application Supportobjc.dll
The first path is normally associated with 64-bit components. The second is commonly used by 32-bit Apple components on 64-bit Windows. Microsoft Store applications use protected package folders under:
C:Program FilesWindowsApps
Do not treat these paths as instructions to copy the file manually. The correct location depends on the parent application and installer type.
Products and utilities that may depend on Apple’s runtime include:
- iTunes for Windows
- Apple Devices for Windows
- iCloud for Windows and related Apple components
- AltStore or AltServer
- qaac, MeGUI, and similar audio or media utilities
A third-party program may require the traditional Apple Application Support installation even when the Microsoft Store version of an Apple app is present.

First identify the failure type
The wording determines which repair path is appropriate.
“objc.dll is missing” or “was not found”
This usually means Windows cannot find the DLL or one of its dependent Apple libraries. The parent installation may be incomplete, removed, quarantined, or installed in a path the affected program does not search.
“The procedure entry point could not be located”
For example:
The procedure entry point _objc_init_image could not be located in the dynamic link library objc.dll.
This normally indicates that the program loaded an incompatible copy. Replacing only objc.dll can make the mismatch worse. Repair the complete Apple installation instead.
An access violation or crash naming objc.dll
Event Viewer may identify objc.dll as the faulting module with exception code 0xc0000005. That does not prove the file is damaged. It may be an Apple application or Windows compatibility problem, including failures during iPhone or iPad operations.
Fix 1: Repair the Apple app from Windows
Start with the application named in the error. This is the safest fix for a Store installation.

- Intentional selection: All the tools you need. A 64 precision bit driver set, tweezers, flex extension, opening tools, and anti-static wristband.
- Secure design: Magnetic case and foam insert ensure secure storage and transportation. Additionally, the inside of the lid serves as a sorting/organization tray.
- Lifetime Warranty: We'll replace anything that breaks, as long as you own it.
- Close iTunes, Apple Devices, iCloud, AltServer, and related utilities.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the Apple application named by the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Start the affected program and check whether the error has disappeared.
Repair preserves the application’s data when Windows supports that option. If the error remains, return to the same screen, choose Reset, and test again. Reset can remove application settings, so back up any important application data first.
If Reset does not work:
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select the Apple app.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Microsoft Store and install Apple Devices, Apple Music, or another required Apple application again.
- If the failing program is iTunes, install iTunes through Apple’s current supported route rather than substituting a DLL.
Apple’s Windows software is distributed through both Microsoft Store packages and traditional desktop installers. Those packages can place shared files differently.
Fix 2: Reinstall the traditional Apple dependency
Use this path when the error comes from iTunes installed through a desktop installer, or from a legacy utility such as AltStore, AltServer, qaac, or MeGUI.
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Remove the affected Apple desktop application.
- Remove Apple Application Support only if it is listed separately and you are rebuilding the Apple installation.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the current Windows installer from Apple’s official support or iTunes download page.
- Choose the installer architecture required by the failing application.
- Run the installer as an administrator.
- Restart Windows after installation.
- Launch the original program again.
Do not delete your iTunes media folders or library files as part of this process. Uninstalling the application is different from deleting personal media and library data.
If the dependent utility expects this conventional folder:
C:Program FilesCommon FilesAppleApple Application Support
or:
C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesAppleApple Application Support
the traditional Apple package is usually the appropriate installation. A Microsoft Store package may work for Apple’s own applications while remaining invisible to an older third-party program that searches fixed desktop paths.
Fix 3: Match 32-bit and 64-bit versions
Windows being 64-bit does not mean every program is 64-bit.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- A 64-bit application needs the compatible 64-bit Apple runtime.
- A 32-bit application needs the compatible 32-bit runtime, even on 64-bit Windows.
- Installing 64-bit iTunes does not automatically satisfy every 32-bit third-party utility.
Check the failing executable rather than choosing a DLL based on the Windows edition.
For a program installed under Program Files (x86), a 32-bit build is likely, although the folder alone is not absolute proof. If the program’s documentation identifies its architecture, follow that information. Avoid installing separate DLL copies to force compatibility.

Known file listings include both 32-bit and 64-bit builds, but Apple does not publish a complete supported version matrix for objc.dll. File size or a version number from a DLL index does not establish authenticity or compatibility.
Fix 4: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may have removed or quarantined the file.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Open Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
objc.dllor the Apple installation directory. - Do not restore the file automatically.
- Confirm that it came from a signed Apple installation.
- Run a security scan.
- Prefer reinstalling the parent Apple application after confirming the detection is a false positive.
If a verified Apple installer repeatedly loses the file, update Windows Security and the Apple application, then contact the relevant vendor. Microsoft warns that restoring a malicious file can expose the computer.
Fix 5: Check the failing executable in Event Viewer
This is essential when the file exists but the error continues.
- Press Windows + X.
- Select Event Viewer.
- Expand Windows Logs.
- Select Application.
- Choose an error recorded at the time of the crash.
- Note the Faulting application name, Faulting module name, Exception code, and file paths.
If the faulting application is iTunes.exe, AppleDevices.exe, AMPDevicesAgent.exe, or an Apple service, repair that Apple installation.
If the faulting application is a third-party utility, repair its Apple dependency path and confirm whether it requires the desktop installer. If the module is objc.dll but the exception is an access violation, reinstalling may not solve the problem. Install pending Apple and Windows updates and test the operation again.

Treat that as a diagnostic lead, not proof of a universal Windows problem.
Fix 6: Update Windows and relevant device software
Apple device utilities can fail when Windows, Apple components, or device drivers are out of date.
Install Windows updates
- Open Start > Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Windows Update again and repeat the check until no further updates are offered.
Check Apple device drivers
- Connect the Apple device if the error occurs during device access.
- Press Windows + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Portable Devices, Universal Serial Bus controllers, and Universal Serial Bus devices.
- Right-click the relevant Apple or USB device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test the Apple application.
Do not remove unknown drivers at random. If the failure began after a driver update, open the device’s Properties > Driver tab and use Roll Back Driver only when that option is available and the timing clearly matches.

Manually hunting through multiple driver versions can be difficult when the real problem is an Apple package mismatch. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers; its free scan identifies issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version. Reinstalling the Apple application remains the definitive fix when objc.dll belongs to that application.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix 7: Repair Windows components only when Windows itself is damaged
objc.dll is not normally a protected Windows component, so System File Checker will not usually restore it. Use these commands when other Windows applications also show corruption or system-component errors.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Repair or reinstall the Apple application again.
DISM should run before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the Apple application. If both commands complete without finding problems, focus on the Apple package, architecture, or compatibility issue instead of repeating them.
Repeatedly hunting through Windows component repairs can be slower than identifying which Apple installation is broken. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system issues; its free scan shows detected problems, while repairs are performed by the full version. When the missing file belongs to Apple software, reinstalling that parent application remains the definitive fix.
What not to do
- Do not download
objc.dllfrom a random DLL website. - Do not copy it from another PC or another Apple product.
- Do not place it in
C:WindowsSystem32orC:WindowsSysWOW64. - Do not use
regsvr32 objc.dll. - Do not replace only the DLL after an entry-point error.
- Do not disable antivirus protection permanently.
regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose COM registration functions such as DllRegisterServer. Runtime libraries generally do not self-register. A message saying that DllRegisterServer was not found confirms that registration is not the correct repair.
FAQ
Does objc.dll belong to Windows?
No reliable evidence establishes that it ships with Windows itself. It is associated with Apple software and is normally restored by repairing the application that installed it.
Does reinstalling iTunes fix it?
Usually, when iTunes is the failing application and its installation is incomplete or mismatched. Use the supported Apple installer and reinstall the complete dependency set rather than downloading only objc.dll.
Why does Apple Devices work but AltStore still fail?
The Microsoft Store package may keep files inside a protected package directory, while AltStore or another legacy utility may expect Apple Application Support under Common FilesApple. Install the traditional Apple desktop package when the utility requires that path.
The file exists. Why does Windows still report an error?
Windows may be loading an incompatible copy, or another dependent Apple DLL may be missing. An entry-point error especially points to mismatched versions. Repair the owning application and inspect Event Viewer.
Recommended Free Tools
Should I run SFC or DISM first?
Only when other Windows components are malfunctioning. These commands generally do not restore a third-party Apple DLL. For an isolated objc.dll error, repair the Apple application first.
What if reinstalling does not stop the crash?
Record the application name, faulting module, exception code, and Windows build in Event Viewer. Install pending updates, test the Store and traditional installation paths appropriately, and try the operation on another supported Windows installation if the crash occurs during Apple device management.
