The full path shown in the error or security history
A path underC:WindowsSystem32orC:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepositorysuggests a Windows printer-driver context. A path underC:Program Filesor a game folder may belong to a separate application. -
Your Windows architecture
Open Settings → System → About and check System type. A 32-bit component may be required even on 64-bit Windows, so do not choose a replacement DLL based only on its filename.
rcrpcs.dll is associated with an older Windows printer component described in public file records as an XPS Rasterization Service XPS to RPCS raster filter. It is not a universal runtime file that every Windows installation must contain. The program or printer package that installed it is the component you need to repair.

What the rcrpcs.dll error means
Windows may show messages such as:
- “The program can’t start because rcrpcs.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because rcrpcs.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading rcrpcs.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “rcrpcs.dll is not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
- “The procedure entry point … could not be located in the dynamic link library rcrpcs.dll.”
These are Windows loader messages. They identify a failed load, but not necessarily the exact cause. “The specified module could not be found” can mean that a dependency used by rcrpcs.dll is missing.
The XPS connection is genuine. Microsoft describes the Windows XPS Rasterization Service as a way to convert fixed XPS pages into bitmap data for XPSDrv printer filters. Microsoft’s documentation names the principal service DLL XpsRasterService.dll, not specifically rcrpcs.dll. That means rcrpcs.dll should be treated as a separate, older RPCS printer raster filter supplied through a driver package, not as the general XPS service itself.
Driver files can be stored below:
C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepository
The folder name varies by driver package and Windows build. A file in DriverStore is not automatically meant to be copied manually into System32.
Fix 1: Repair the program or printer that owns the file
This is the safest first fix when the error appears while printing, installing a printer, starting the print spooler, or opening printer-related software.
If a specific application or game reports the error
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find the application that displays the error.
- Select More options or the three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair. If Repair is unavailable or does not help, choose Reset only if you understand that it may remove the app’s local settings.
- Restart Windows.
- Open the application again.
For a game launcher, use its built-in Verify, Scan, or Repair files command before changing Windows files. If rcrpcs.dll is inside the game or launcher directory, repair or reinstall that application from its official installer.
If the application has no Repair option, uninstall it from Settings → Apps → Installed apps, restart, and install the current package from the developer’s official source. Reinstalling the owning application remains the definitive fix when the file belongs to that application.

If a printer is involved
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected printer.
- Choose Remove and confirm.
- Restart Windows.
- Return to Printers & scanners.
- Select Add device.
- After Windows finds the printer, complete setup.
- Run Windows Update and install any available printer-driver updates.
- Print a test page.
If Windows cannot find a suitable driver, download the exact driver for the printer model and your Windows version from the printer manufacturer’s official support page. Do not substitute a similarly named model or select a package only because its DLL has the same filename.
For a legacy printer, the required component may be 32-bit. Reinstall the complete matching driver package rather than copying a 32-bit DLL into an application directory or choosing an x64 package by mistake.

Fix 2: Reinstall or roll back the printer driver
Use this route when the problem began after a Windows update or driver update, or when removing and adding the printer did not restore the filter.
Roll back a recently changed driver
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers or Print queues.
- Right-click the affected printer.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- If Roll Back Driver is available, select it.
- Choose a reason and confirm.
- Restart Windows and test printing.
If Roll Back Driver is unavailable, select Update Driver and let Windows search automatically. You can also choose Uninstall device, restart Windows, and then reinstall the printer through Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
Be careful with manual driver removal. Removing a package through Print Server Properties → Drivers can affect other printers that use the same package. Only remove it when you have identified the affected package and know which other printers depend on it.

Use these commands if Windows reports the file as missing, the printer driver is correct, or the failure began after a failed update, disk problem, improper shutdown, or system-cleaning operation.

- Select Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish. Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until the scan reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Retry the printer or application.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows files and replaces incorrect versions when possible. Use Windows Update as the normal repair source.

If SFC says it could not repair some files:
- Install pending updates through Settings → Windows Update.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the DISM command again.
- Run
sfc /scannowagain. - Review
%windir%LogsCBSCBS.logif the problem continues.
If DISM and SFC cannot repair the installation, use a matching Windows installation source or perform an in-place repair install. Back up important files first. A clean installation should be a last resort.
Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may have quarantined or deleted a driver file. Treat this as a possibility, not proof that rcrpcs.dll is commonly falsely detected.
- Open your antivirus application.
- Open Quarantine, History, or Protection history.
- Search for
rcrpcs.dll. - Check the original path recorded for the detection.
- Check the file’s publisher and digital signature where the security product provides them.
- Restore it only when the original path belongs to the expected Windows printer package or application and the file is trustworthy.
- Update the security product.
- Run a full scan.
- Reinstall the printer driver or owning application if the file is not restored.
Do not restore a file found in an unexpected game or application folder merely because its name matches. A file named RCRpcs.dll in a Riot Client directory has been shown in a Microsoft Q&A crash report, but that may be a separate vendor DLL with the same name.
Fix 5: Confirm the path, architecture, and caller
A valid-looking filename is not enough to identify the correct file.
Check the file’s properties:
- Right-click the file in File Explorer.
- Select Properties.
- Open Details and Digital Signatures, if present.
- Note the location, file description, product information, and signer.
- Do not overwrite it based on file size or filename alone.
Known public records list a 32-bit version 0.3.8315.0 at approximately 0.18 MB. Those records are not an official Microsoft package manifest, and they do not establish which exact printer models or Windows editions install the file.

If the caller is an application, repair that application. If the caller is a printer spooler or print filter, repair the printer package. If the file exists but Windows still cannot load it, a dependency or architecture mismatch may be the actual failure.

Do not treat this as a routine repair:
regsvr32 rcrpcs.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by COM or ActiveX components. Microsoft does not identify rcrpcs.dll as a self-registering COM DLL, and an ordinary printer raster filter does not become usable by registering it.
A likely result is an error stating that the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. Reinstall the complete driver or application instead.
Avoid standalone DLL downloads
Do not download rcrpcs.dll from a random DLL website or copy an arbitrary file into System32 or SysWOW64. The replacement may contain malware, use the wrong architecture, belong to a different build, or leave the damaged printer package and its dependencies unresolved.

Is rcrpcs.dll a Windows file?
It is associated with older Windows printer-driver packages and an XPS-to-RPCS raster-filter role, but it is not a universal DLL present on every Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation.

Should I install Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, or .NET?
There is no verified evidence that these packages install rcrpcs.dll. Install them only when the error names a separate missing runtime or the owning application explicitly requires one.
Why does the error say the module could not be found when the file exists?
A dependency of rcrpcs.dll may be missing, or the file may have the wrong architecture or version. Reinstall the complete matching driver or application rather than replacing the individual file.
Is rcrpcs.dll malware?
The name is associated with a legitimate printer-related component, but a filename alone proves nothing. Inspect the full path, digital signature, and calling program. A same-named DLL in an unrelated application folder must be assessed as that application’s file.
What if the error appears only for one Windows account?
Test the program from another Windows account. If it works there, a damaged profile or per-user application path may be involved. Repair the affected application or profile rather than replacing a system DLL.
When should I use System Restore?
Use System Restore when the failure began immediately after a known driver, application, or Windows change and a restore point is available. It should supplement, not replace, identifying and repairing the component that owns the file.
