objectmanager.dll Errors: Trace the Program and Repair It

By VGSources Team 12 min read

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

objectmanager.dll is a third-party application file, not a normal Windows component. The documented MUSICMATCH JUKEBOX copy is a 32-bit library named ObjectManager, so the safest fix is to identify the program requesting it and repair that program.

Do not download a random copy and place it in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. The same filename is associated with unrelated software, including Free Opener and Corel-related components, and those files may have different architectures and dependencies.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

First, identify which program needs objectmanager.dll

Before repairing Windows, find the executable that produces the error. The filename alone does not establish ownership.

Look at the error window and note:

  • The name of the application that will not start
  • Whether the message appears during startup or after launching a shortcut
  • The application’s installation folder
  • Whether the problem began after an uninstall, update, restore, cleanup, or antivirus detection
  • Whether the affected program is 32-bit or 64-bit

If the error names MUSICMATCH JUKEBOX or appears while launching an old MUSICMATCH installation, its private application copy is the most likely target. Musicmatch Jukebox is obsolete, however, and there is no verified current official MUSICMATCH download page to use as a replacement source.

Check the shortcut target

  1. Right-click the shortcut that produces the error.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Open the Shortcut tab.
  4. Read the Target field and Start in folder.
  5. Write down the executable name and its directory.

If the target points to a modern game, media program, utility, or design application, repair that product instead of installing the MUSICMATCH variant.

Search for existing copies

  1. Press Windows key + E to open File Explorer.
  2. Select This PC.
  3. In the search box, enter objectmanager.dll.
  4. Allow the search to finish.
  5. For each result, right-click the file and select Properties.
  6. Check the General, Details, and Digital Signatures tabs when present.
  7. Record the complete path, product description, publisher, version information, and architecture clues.

A copy beside the application’s executable is more relevant than a copy in a generic download folder. Do not replace one application’s file with another result merely because the names match.

Fix 1: Repair the application that reports the error

Time needed: About 5 to 15 minutes.

This is the highest-probability fix when the application still exists. Windows can restore damaged application files without requiring you to locate an individual DLL.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Repair a Windows 11 application

  1. Open Start.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Choose Apps.
  4. Select Installed apps.
  5. Find the application named in the error.
  6. Select the three-dot button beside it.
  7. Choose Advanced options.
  8. Select Repair.
  9. Start the application again.

The Repair button should preserve the application’s data while restoring files that Windows can repair. If the error remains, return to the same screen and use Reset only if you understand that it may remove application data and settings.

Repair traditional desktop software

  1. Press Windows key + R.
  2. Type appwiz.cpl.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Find the affected program in Programs and Features.
  5. Right-click it.
  6. Choose Repair, Change, or Modify, depending on what the installer provides.
  7. Follow the repair wizard.
  8. Restart Windows if the installer requests it.
  9. Launch the program again.

If there is no repair option, continue with a reinstall of the same application.

Fix 2: Uninstall and reinstall the exact parent application

Time needed: About 15 to 30 minutes, not including time spent locating a trustworthy installer.

A reinstall is the definitive fix when the DLL was deleted, corrupted, or removed during a partial update. It restores the file beside the executable and also repairs the application’s registry entries, services, configuration, and dependencies.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Save any documents, playlists, profiles, or settings belonging to the application.
  2. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps in Windows 11, or Settings > Apps > Apps & features in Windows 10.
  3. Select the affected application.
  4. Choose Uninstall.
  5. Complete the uninstall wizard.
  6. Restart Windows.
  7. Reinstall the same product using its original installer or a trustworthy archive supplied by the developer.
  8. Install it into its normal application directory.
  9. Start the program and confirm whether the error has disappeared.

For older desktop programs, you can also open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, select the program, and choose Uninstall or Change.

Do not assume that a current Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX package, or .NET installation will install this particular DLL. Those runtimes may be dependencies for some applications, but they are not a substitute for the parent application’s private files.

If the affected program is MUSICMATCH JUKEBOX and you no longer have its original installer, do not obtain objectmanager.dll from a random DLL site. Because the product is obsolete and no current official MUSICMATCH download was verified, removing the old software may be safer than assembling it from unrelated files.

Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine before restoring anything

Time needed: About 5 to 10 minutes.

Security software can quarantine a DLL after an update or after a scan. This can produce the same missing-file message as an accidental deletion.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open your antivirus application.
  2. Find Protection history, Quarantine, Detected threats, or a similarly named section.
  3. Search for objectmanager.dll.
  4. Check the original path and the detection name.
  5. Compare that path with the application directory you identified earlier.
  6. Check whether the file has a valid digital signature, if one was present.
  7. Restore the file only when the parent application and original path are trusted.
  8. Add an exclusion only if you understand the security consequences and have verified the application’s source.
  9. Launch the application again.

Do not disable antivirus protection merely to force a DLL into a Windows directory. If the detection is uncertain, uninstall and reinstall the parent application from its original installer instead of restoring a questionable file.

If the file is restored and immediately quarantined again, stop. That behavior requires a security review, not repeated manual copying.

Fix 4: Confirm the architecture and application path

Time needed: About 10 minutes.

A 32-bit MUSICMATCH library cannot safely replace a 64-bit library belonging to another product. A 64-bit file is not automatically correct for a 32-bit application either.

Check the affected program’s executable:

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Browse to the folder containing the executable from the shortcut’s Target field.
  3. Right-click the executable and select Properties.
  4. Open Details and record the product information.
  5. If the program has documentation or an installer screen identifying its architecture, compare that information with the DLL.
  6. Keep the DLL in the application’s expected directory.

Common clues include:

  • A 32-bit legacy application installed under C:Program Files (x86)
  • A 64-bit application installed under C:Program Files
  • A DLL whose product description names a different application
  • A file copied from another computer with a different program version

Do not use the folder name alone as proof. Some 32-bit and 64-bit applications can be installed in nonstandard locations.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the DLL exists in the correct folder but Windows still reports that it cannot load, the named file may not be the only problem. The message “The specified module could not be found” can also mean that a dependency required by objectmanager.dll is missing or incompatible. Reinstalling the parent program is safer than guessing which runtime or secondary DLL to copy.

Fix 5: Use the application launcher’s repair function

Time needed: About 5 to 20 minutes.

If the error belongs to a modern game or program, its launcher may have a built-in file check.

  1. Open the application’s launcher.
  2. Select the affected game or program.
  3. Open its settings, management menu, or three-dot menu.
  4. Look for Verify files, Verify integrity, Repair, Scan and repair, or Validate installation.
  5. Start the check.
  6. Let the launcher redownload or replace damaged files.
  7. Restart the launcher and try the program again.

This is especially important when the file is located in a game or product directory. Do not replace it with the documented MUSICMATCH copy just because both files are named objectmanager.dll.

If verification reports that files cannot be replaced, close the launcher, restart Windows, and run the launcher with Run as administrator. If that still fails, uninstall and reinstall the affected application through its normal launcher.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 6: Check for broader Windows component corruption

Time needed: About 15 to 30 minutes, plus restart time.

Use DISM and SFC when Windows itself shows other problems, such as damaged built-in applications, failed updates, unexplained system errors, or multiple protected Windows files missing. These commands normally do not recreate a private third-party MUSICMATCH DLL.

  1. Open Start.
  2. Type Command Prompt.
  3. Right-click Command Prompt.
  4. Select Run as administrator.
  5. Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
  6. Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  1. Wait for DISM to finish.
  2. Run:
sfc /scannow
  1. Wait until the verification reaches 100 percent.
  2. Restart Windows.
  3. Try the affected application again.

Microsoft’s documented order is DISM first, followed by SFC. DISM repairs the Windows component store, while SFC checks protected Windows files against that store.

When manually hunting through system components and repeating repairs without knowing what changed becomes the problem, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for issues and show what it identifies; its repair function is available with the full version. When the file belongs to a specific application, reinstalling that application remains the definitive fix.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If SFC reports that it found no integrity violations, that result does not prove that objectmanager.dll is healthy. It only indicates that protected Windows files passed the check.

Fix 7: Update or reinstall related drivers only when the application points there

Time needed: About 15 to 30 minutes.

A driver update is not the normal repair for an application-owned objectmanager.dll. Use this step only when the error began with a graphics, audio, storage, or device software update and the affected application clearly depends on that device.

Check Device Manager

  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand the category associated with the application, such as Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, or Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  4. Right-click the relevant device.
  5. Select Properties.
  6. Open the Driver tab.
  7. Record the provider and driver date.
  8. Use Update Driver if a supported update is available.
  9. If the problem began immediately after an update, consider Roll Back Driver when that button is available.
  10. Restart Windows and test the application.

Do not remove a device driver simply because its date looks old. The correct driver should come from the hardware manufacturer or the computer maker, and it should match the Windows edition and device model.

When identifying the correct driver manually means hunting through versions and guessing which of many installed drivers is stale, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and show the drivers it finds; driver installation is handled by the full version. Reinstalling the application that owns objectmanager.dll is still the definitive fix when the error is application-specific.

Fix 8: Do not use regsvr32 unless the DLL is a registration server

Time needed: About 5 minutes to check.

regsvr32 is not a universal DLL repair command. It is intended for libraries that provide registration exports such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by certain COM or ActiveX components.

A private application library may not expose that function. Running the command can produce an error such as “DllRegisterServer was not found” without repairing anything.

Only use the application vendor’s instructions when they explicitly require registration and identify the correct architecture. If the application provides no such instruction, skip regsvr32 and repair or reinstall the parent program.

Never register a downloaded DLL simply because a search result recommends it.

Fix 9: Consider System Restore after a recent change

Time needed: About 20 to 45 minutes.

System Restore is reasonable when the error started immediately after a recent driver installation, application change, cleanup operation, or update, and the application has no usable repair option.

  1. Press Windows key + R.
  2. Type rstrui.exe.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Select Next.
  5. Choose a restore point created before the failure began.
  6. Select Scan for affected programs if available.
  7. Review the changes.
  8. Select Next, then Finish.
  9. Allow Windows to restart.

System Restore is not a targeted replacement mechanism for objectmanager.dll. It may roll back application files and configuration, but it will not reliably reconstruct an obsolete application installation. If no suitable restore point exists, return to the application’s repair or reinstall process.

When to remove the application instead

If the program is obsolete, no longer needed, or repeatedly fails after a verified reinstall, removal may be the correct outcome.

This is particularly relevant to MUSICMATCH JUKEBOX. The product was acquired by Yahoo and is no longer a current Windows application. Even if one missing DLL is restored, old services, codecs, update components, licensing functions, or Internet-dependent features may remain broken.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Remove it when:

  • The original installer is unavailable
  • The application has no current supported release
  • A stale startup entry keeps producing the error
  • The program is no longer used
  • Antivirus software repeatedly flags its files
  • Repair leaves additional startup or service errors

To remove a stale startup entry:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
  2. Select Startup apps.
  3. Find the obsolete program.
  4. Right-click it.
  5. Select Disable.
  6. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  7. Uninstall the remaining application entry if present.
  8. Restart Windows.

Disabling a startup item does not remove the application. Confirm that it belongs to the obsolete program before disabling it.

What the error messages mean

These are common forms of the Windows loader error:

  • “This application failed to start because objectmanager.dll was not found.”
  • “The file objectmanager.dll is missing or corrupted.”
  • “A required component is missing: objectmanager.dll. Please install the application again.”
  • “Error loading objectmanager.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
  • “The program can’t start because objectmanager.dll is missing from your computer.”
  • “Cannot register objectmanager.dll.”
  • “objectmanager.dll could not be found.”

The wording does not identify the owner by itself. “The specified module could not be found” can indicate a missing dependency, while “not designed to run on Windows” is a generic loader message that requires checking the application path, architecture, and file integrity.

Common causes and the matching fix

Cause Best response
Application was partially uninstalled or damaged Repair, then reinstall that application
Antivirus quarantined the file Check quarantine and restore only a verified original
Wrong product’s DLL was copied Remove it and restore the parent application’s own copy
32-bit and 64-bit files were mixed Reinstall the matching application build
A dependency is missing Reinstall the parent application and review its logs
Broader Windows corruption exists Run DISM, then SFC
Obsolete startup entry remains Disable or remove the unused application
Recent system change caused the failure Consider System Restore

FAQ

Is objectmanager.dll part of Windows?

No. Windows has an internal kernel subsystem called the Object Manager, but that is not the same thing as an application file named objectmanager.dll. There is no reason to place this DLL in System32 or SysWOW64.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does objectmanager.dll belong to MUSICMATCH JUKEBOX?

One documented 32-bit variant belongs to MUSICMATCH JUKEBOX and is described as ObjectManager, published by MUSICMATCH, Inc. The basename is not unique, so confirm the full path and file properties before treating every copy as a MUSICMATCH file.

Should I download objectmanager.dll separately?

No. Random DLL download sources can provide malware, the wrong product version, the wrong architecture, or a file with missing dependencies. Restore the file through the parent application’s repair or reinstall process using an original installer or trustworthy developer archive.

Will SFC restore objectmanager.dll?

Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows files. objectmanager.dll is a private third-party application library, so reinstalling the application is the appropriate repair.

Should I run regsvr32 objectmanager.dll?

Usually not. Registration only applies when the DLL exposes the required registration function and the application expects it. A normal private application library may reject the command.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why does the error appear after the program was uninstalled?

The uninstall may have left a startup shortcut, scheduled task, service, or application entry that still attempts to launch the old executable. Disable or remove the stale entry instead of replacing the missing DLL.

What if the file exists but the program still will not start?

Check the file’s complete path, publisher, architecture, and signature. Then repair the parent application because the file may be corrupt or may depend on another missing library.

When should I stop trying to repair it?

Stop when the program is obsolete, its original installer is unavailable, antivirus repeatedly flags it, or repair produces more failures. Removing unused legacy software is safer than assembling an unverified DLL installation from miscellaneous files.
