objectps.dll is a legacy InstallShield component, not a normal Windows file. If objectps.dll is missing or cannot be loaded, repair or reinstall the specific application or installer that originally supplied it rather than copying a random DLL into System32.
objectps.dll: quick identification
| Detail | What it means |
|---|---|
| File | objectps.dll |
| Description | InstallShield (R) ObjectPS DLL |
| Associated software | Legacy InstallShield installation technology |
| File category | Application component |
| Windows component | No |
| Universal version | None verified |
| Usual repair | Repair or reinstall the parent application or installer |
InstallShield projects can contain objects: packages of logic and files used to install particular functionality. Older InstallShield engines also used shared runtime locations for some InstallScript setups. That is why this file may appear in an old application’s directory, an installer extraction folder, or a legacy InstallShield engine directory instead of a Windows system folder.

InstallShield has passed through several corporate owners and is now associated with Revenera. The important point for troubleshooting is unchanged: objectps.dll belongs to an application installation chain, not to Windows itself.
What the error usually looks like
Windows and the affected program may display slightly different wording, including:

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- “The program can’t start because objectps.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because objectps.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading objectps.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “objectps.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
The wording does not identify the correct download or installation source. It only tells you that the program attempted to load a component and failed.
The most useful clue is the program named in the error. If no program is named, check what you were doing when the message appeared:
- Starting an old game or application.
- Running an installer or uninstall program.
- Launching a setup file from an optical disc, backup, or archive.
- Opening a program after moving its folder.
- Starting an application after antivirus software removed a file.
If the message appears during installation, objectps.dll may belong to the installer’s temporary extraction directory rather than the finished application.
First, identify the parent program
Do not begin by searching for the filename alone. Find the software that requested it.
Check the error window
Look at the title bar and the surrounding text. The application name may be visible even if the message mentions only objectps.dll.
Check the shortcut
Right-click the affected shortcut and select Properties. On the Shortcut tab:
- Read the Target path.
- Select Open File Location if available.
- Note the application folder and drive.
- Do not delete or replace files yet.
If the target points to an old removable drive, backup folder, or manually moved directory, the application may simply no longer be in the location expected by its installer or launcher.

On Windows 11:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for the program that fails.
- Open its three-dot menu and look for Modify, Repair, or Uninstall.
On Windows 10:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Apps & features.
- Select the affected application.
- Choose Modify, Repair, or Uninstall if available.
You can also press Win+R, enter appwiz.cpl, and press Enter to open Programs and Features. This older control panel often exposes repair options that are not visible in Settings.
Check the installer and media
If the error appears before the application is installed, identify the setup source:
- the downloaded installer filename;
- the folder containing
setup.exeor another launcher; - an old disc or mounted image;
- a game launcher’s installation folder;
- a backup restored to a different drive.
An incomplete installer may have extracted some files but not all of the InstallShield object files. Replacing one DLL will not restore the missing directory structure or companion files.
Fix 1: repair or reinstall the affected application
This is the most likely solution because objectps.dll is an application component.

Use the built-in repair option
- Open Settings.
- Go to Apps and open the installed-app list.
- Select the affected program.
- Choose Advanced options if shown.
- Select Repair.
- Start the program again.
If the repair option is unavailable, use Modify in Programs and Features or run the application’s original setup program again. Select Repair when offered.
A successful repair normally means the application opens without the objectps.dll message. It may also recreate the application’s InstallShield files in its original directory.
Reinstall from trusted original media
If repair fails:
- Back up the application’s saved games, profiles, templates, or configuration files.
- Uninstall the affected program from Settings > Apps or Programs and Features.
- Restart Windows.
- Obtain the complete installer from the software publisher, original game launcher, or trusted installation media.
- Extract the installer to a local folder if it is stored in an archive.
- Right-click the setup program and select Run as administrator.
- Install to the original location unless the publisher documents another path.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
Do not mix an old objectps.dll with a newer application build. InstallShield files may be version-specific, and a public file listing is not proof that its version, architecture, or dependencies match your program.
If the software came through a game launcher, use its file verification or repair feature instead of manually replacing files. The launcher should restore the complete package that belongs to that release.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix 2: check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove an InstallShield file if it considers the installer suspicious, especially when the software is old or uses unusual self-extracting behavior.
Check Protection History
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event matching the time the error started.
- Expand the event and read the detected file path and threat details.
If the quarantined file came from an installer you fully trust, verify that the installer came from the software publisher or original media before taking action. Microsoft warns that restoring a quarantined file can result in another detection.
Do not automatically allow a file merely because its name is objectps.dll. A matching filename does not prove that the file is genuine. If the installer source is uncertain, remove the application and reinstall it from clean, trusted media instead.
After restoring or allowing a file, run the application again. If Windows Security immediately quarantines it again, stop restoring it and investigate the installer. The program may be damaged, altered, or incompatible with current security software.

Fix 3: verify the installer package
An old InstallShield setup may depend on several files in a particular folder structure. Running only an extracted executable, moving setup files between folders, or launching setup from a network location can cause incomplete extraction.
Try this process:
- Copy the complete installer folder to a local folder such as
C:InstallersAppName. - If the installer is compressed, extract all contents rather than opening individual files inside the archive.
- Confirm that the extraction completes without errors.
- Right-click the main setup program.
- Select Properties and check whether Windows shows an Unblock option on the General tab.
- If present, select Unblock, then select Apply.
- Right-click the setup program and select Run as administrator.
- Run repair or reinstall from that local folder.
If the program is stored on a disc, try copying the complete contents to the local drive before running setup. If copying fails, the media may be damaged.
Fix 4: check the application directory and permissions
If objectps.dll already exists, the error may involve a dependent file, an incorrect path, permissions, or incompatible architecture.

In the application’s installation folder:
- Search for
objectps.dll. - Check whether it is located beside the executable that reports the error.
- Right-click the DLL and select Properties.
- Review the General and Details tabs.
- Do not rely on filename alone to establish authenticity.
If the file exists in an unexpected temporary folder or a recently restored backup, reinstalling the application is safer than moving it manually.
You can also test whether the application is blocked by permissions:
- Right-click its shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program as an administrator only as a diagnostic test.
- Select Apply, then launch the program.
If administrator mode changes the result, the application may need access to its installation or data directory. Do not permanently weaken security permissions across the entire drive. Use the publisher’s documented compatibility settings where available.
Fix 5: repair Windows components when other programs also fail
Because objectps.dll is not a protected Windows DLL, system repair is not the primary fix. It becomes reasonable if several unrelated applications fail, Windows features behave incorrectly, or the problem began after broader system corruption.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before System File Checker.
Recommended Free Tools
- Open Start.
- Type
cmd. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Enter:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Then enter:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store that SFC uses as a repair source. SFC then checks protected Windows files. Neither command downloads or supplies a third-party InstallShield component, so a clean result does not eliminate the need to reinstall the parent application.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting tedious. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for issues and show what it identifies, while repair actions require the full version; for this file, reinstalling the affected application remains the definitive fix.
For Microsoft’s own repair procedure, see Microsoft’s System File Checker guidance.
Fix 6: consider 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
A 64-bit Windows installation can run 32-bit applications and legacy InstallShield installers. Therefore, seeing 64-bit Windows does not mean the missing component must be 64-bit.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →There is no verified universal architecture or version for every copy of objectps.dll. Publicly indexed examples include legacy 32-bit files, but the correct architecture depends on the original application.
Do not download a 64-bit replacement simply because Windows is 64-bit. Restore the file from the matching application installer.
Architecture problems are more likely when:
- an old program was copied from another PC;
- only part of an installer was extracted;
- files from different releases were combined;
- a 32-bit application was given files from a 64-bit package;
- a required dependent DLL is missing.
If the file exists but Windows reports that the module cannot be found, the missing item may be a dependency rather than objectps.dll itself. Repairing the complete application package is safer than trying to identify dependencies one at a time.

Fix 7: repair related runtimes only when evidence points there
Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, and .NET repairs are secondary checks. They do not normally provide objectps.dll, because that file belongs to InstallShield rather than to a Microsoft runtime.
If the error mentions a separate runtime DLL, or the application’s documentation lists a prerequisite, install the prerequisite from Microsoft’s official source. Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable documentation explains that the runtime architecture must match the application.
Do not install every runtime package as a general DLL remedy. That adds software without addressing an incomplete InstallShield installation.
Check Windows Features
Some older applications require optional Windows components, but enabling them will not recreate objectps.dll.
- Press
Win+R. - Enter
optionalfeatures. - Press Enter.
- Review the features named by the application’s documentation.
- Enable only the required feature.
- Select OK and restart if Windows requests it.
Do not enable legacy components simply because the filename is old. Use this step only when the application specifically requires a Windows feature.
Fix 8: update or reinstall a related driver only when the app depends on it
A driver is not the normal source of objectps.dll. Driver work is relevant when the affected program is tied to hardware, such as a scanner, capture device, controller, printer, or specialized card.
To check for driver problems:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Properties.
- Read the status on the General tab.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and date.
- Use Update Driver only when a compatible driver is available from the hardware manufacturer.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
Do not remove a working device driver just because an unrelated InstallShield DLL is missing. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and identify what needs attention, while driver installation requires the full version; it is not a substitute for reinstalling the application that owns objectps.dll.
Fix 9: use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore is useful when the error began immediately after an update, cleanup operation, failed installation, or software removal.
- Press
Win+R. - Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the error appeared.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Finish to start the restore.
System Restore is a fallback, not a replacement for identifying the parent application. It may remove recently installed programs or drivers, so save work and review the affected-program list first. Microsoft provides additional guidance for System Restore.
Should you run regsvr32 objectps.dll?
Usually, no.
Do not begin with:
regsvr32 objectps.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide the registration entry points expected by Windows. It does not repair a missing file, restore an InstallShield package, fix a wrong version, or supply a missing dependency.
Use it only when the application’s own documentation explicitly requires registration or the error clearly concerns missing COM registration. Some public metadata lists registration exports for one objectps.dll build, but that does not establish that registration is correct for every release.
If an application specifically requires registration on 64-bit Windows and the DLL is 32-bit, the 32-bit registration tool is normally used:

A message such as “The module failed to load” can mean that a dependency is missing. It does not prove that registration was the correct repair.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat not to do
Do not download objectps.dll from a random DLL site
Random DLL download sites sites can provide:
- malware or modified files;
- the wrong InstallShield release;
- the wrong architecture;
- a file with missing dependencies;
- a file that does not match the application’s expected object package.
Even a clean-looking DLL may not fix the root cause if the installer is incomplete or the file was quarantined again.
Do not copy it into System32 by default
System32 is not the universal destination for third-party application DLLs. Placing an unrelated version there can cause conflicts and makes later diagnosis harder. Restore the file to the application or installer location through the complete setup package.
Do not confuse similarly named files
Names such as objps7.dll, objps8.dll, and objpscnv.dll are not interchangeable with objectps.dll. A similar filename is not evidence that it belongs to the same application.
Do not clean the registry for this error
Registry cleaners do not restore missing installer files. They can remove configuration that an old application still needs. Repair the application first.
Recommended Free Tools
If every repair attempt fails
Gather the following information before contacting the software publisher:
- The exact application name and release.
- Whether the error occurs during installation or normal launch.
- The full path shown in the error or shortcut.
- The installer source and whether it completed extraction.
- Windows Security Protection History results.
- Whether
objectps.dllexists in the application directory. - Whether the issue began after uninstalling, cleanup, backup restoration, or an update.
- Whether the program is 32-bit or 64-bit, if documented.
- Any setup log or application error log.
Ask the publisher for the complete installer matching that release, not an isolated DLL. If the application was restored from an old backup, reinstalling it to the original path may be necessary. If the error returns after reinstalling, review antivirus history and test the installer from a clean local folder.
FAQ
Is objectps.dll a Windows file?
No. It is an InstallShield ObjectPS component associated with legacy application installation technology. It is not a standard Windows component supplied for System32 or SysWOW64.
Does installing Visual C++ fix objectps.dll?
Not normally. Visual C++ supplies Microsoft runtime libraries, while objectps.dll belongs to an InstallShield installation package. Repair Visual C++ only when the application reports a separate Microsoft runtime problem.
Can I copy objectps.dll from another computer?
That is unsafe unless the other computer has the exact same application release and the file’s origin is verified. Reinstalling the complete application is more reliable because it restores companion files and configuration.
Is objectps.dll always 32-bit?
No universal architecture should be assumed. Legacy examples are often 32-bit, and a 32-bit application can require a 32-bit component on 64-bit Windows. Use the architecture supplied by the matching installer.
Will regsvr32 fix the error?
Only in the narrow case where the application requires DLL registration and the DLL supports the expected registration interface. It will not fix a missing file or incomplete InstallShield setup.
What is the safest source for the file?
The original application’s complete installer, the software publisher’s current installer, or trusted original installation media. The parent program remains the correct source, not a standalone DLL download.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
