In April 2025, some players using the Microsoft Store/Xbox app version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered reported that graphics options such as DLSS and other upscaling settings disappeared after an update. Bethesda said a follow-up Microsoft PC hotfix should address certain upscaling and anti-aliasing issues, and warned that players might need to select their settings again. Later patch notes documented additional settings fixes, but they do not establish that every current PC configuration is free of problems.
What happened to the PC Game Pass graphics settings?
Reports surfaced after a Microsoft PC hotfix on April 25, 2025. Affected players said they could no longer find upscaling options, including DLSS, in the PC Game Pass version. Windows Central reported the issue on April 25, but those player reports describe what some users encountered; they are not proof that every installation or PC was affected. Windows Central’s report.
The distinction matters because the same game’s settings can depend on platform and hardware. Bethesda’s support page says graphics-option availability may depend on the platform, monitor, and graphics card. A missing option after an update may therefore call for checking both the installed version and compatibility, rather than assuming that the game has permanently removed it. What Bethesda said to do
On April 28, Bethesda Support announced a Microsoft PC hotfix aimed at the upscaling and anti-aliasing issues some players experienced with the April 25 hotfix. Bethesda’s guidance was: “Please note that you may need to reselect your settings in-game once you have updated the game.” Bethesda Support’s update and advice.

- Update the game through the same channel you use to play it. This incident concerned the Microsoft PC version distributed through the Xbox app/Microsoft Store; do not assume the same update history applies to the Steam build.
- Open the in-game graphics settings after updating. Check whether the upscaling and anti-aliasing choices are available for your setup.
- Reselect the settings you want. Bethesda specifically warned that an update might require choosing them again rather than relying on saved selections.
- If an option remains absent, check compatibility and the installed build. Bethesda identifies platform, monitor, and graphics card as factors in which options appear. Its historical announcements do not diagnose every present-day configuration, so a continued problem should not automatically be attributed to the 2025 outage.
What later patches changed
Bethesda’s subsequent notes show that settings behavior received further fixes beyond the April hotfix. The chronology below applies to the PC/Xbox updates documented by Bethesda; it is not a guarantee that every individual setup now behaves identically.
| Date | Bethesda update | Relevant settings note |
|---|---|---|
| June 11, 2025 | Update 1.1 | Listed a fix for player settings being reset when settings were updated, and a fix for settings mirroring from PC to Xbox. Bethesda Update 1.1 notes. |
| July 16, 2025 | Update 1.2 | Stated that settings migrated properly between PC and Xbox. Bethesda Update 1.2 notes. |
These notes document follow-up work on settings resets and cross-platform settings migration. They do not say that every graphics-option issue on every PC was fixed, nor do they confirm a current widespread outage.

Is this still a widespread problem?
The reports cited here concern an April 2025 update, followed by Bethesda hotfixes and later patch notes. Those historical reports are not evidence that the same problem is widespread now. The exact current state across all PC configurations is not established by the cited updates, and the answer for an individual player depends in part on the build and update channel installed.
There is no source-supported reason to buy a graphics card, monitor, or repair utility as a remedy for the reported update behavior. Start with the game update and the in-game settings; treat hardware compatibility as a separate check if a particular option is unavailable.
