Does Oblivion Remastered Keep the Original’s Goofy Voice Lines?

Yes—some of the original’s most recognizable goofy dialogue remains, including Tandilwe’s famous “Wait a minute, let me do that one again” flub. But the voice track is not wholly untouched: Bethesda says it kept original voices while recording some new dialogue, and the remaster updates how characters’ faces and lips move.

What stayed the same—and what changed?

Bethesda described The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered as a remaster rather than a remake, saying it wanted the original game to remain “there as you remember playing it, but seen through today’s technology.” The studio also said some new voices were recorded while keeping the originals. Bethesda’s launch statement and its extended look describe the balance: preserve the original’s core, add dialogue where needed, and modernize the presentation.

Some new dialogue gives races distinct voices

Bethesda says it recorded new dialogue so races that previously shared voices would sound unique. It also highlighted improved lip-sync and more expressive faces. That means familiar dialogue can look different on screen even when the spoken sequence is retained.

Recognizable lines are still there

In its reveal coverage, GameSpot cited “Stop, you’ve violated the law!”, “Stop, criminal scum!” and “Cheese for everyone!” among the lines heard in the remastered presentation. These are reported examples, not a complete check of every memorable line in the game. GameSpot’s report on the dialogue provides those examples.

Tandilwe’s infamous repeated take is preserved

The clearest example is Tandilwe, the Speechcraft trainer. She begins: “I heard that thieves broke into the Arcane University, the Imperial Legion compound, and the temple, all on the same night.” She then catches herself—“Wait a minute, let me do that one again”—and repeats the first line with different emphasis.

GameSpot reported that this sequence remains in the remaster, with lip-sync continuing across the full repeated line. The performance quirk is intact; the updated facial animation gives it a newly polished visual treatment. GameSpot’s report on Tandilwe’s blooper describes the preserved scene.

Why keep a voice-over mistake?

As quoted by GamesRadar in March 2026, Todd Howard defended retaining the flub: “So, you know what, it’s fine. I love the VO line flub. Stuff like that? Yeah, just leave it. It’s fine. It’s part of the game’s character.” The comment reflects the choice to preserve a memorable imperfection rather than smooth it out. GamesRadar’s report attributes the quote to Howard.
