Yes—the April timing report was substantially right. Bethesda revealed and released The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on April 22, 2025. The leak had described April as the target and a same-month shadow drop as possible, not guaranteed. And while the leak called it a remake, Bethesda described the released game as a remaster.
What the April leak predicted
A March 2025 Reddit post reproducing an update from NateTheHate said Bethesda was targeting April for both the reveal and release, with only a short gap between them. It also said a shadow drop was possible. That was a report about plans at the time, not a guarantee of an exact date or release method.
On April 7, GameSpot reported that Jeff Grubb expected Bethesda to shadow-drop the game during April, while also noting earlier reporting that June had been under consideration. Bethesda ultimately released the game on April 22, matching the April forecast.

Why Bethesda called it a remaster, not a remake
The leak’s “remake” wording was not the terminology Bethesda used for the finished project. Bethesda Game Studios said: “We never wanted to remake it – but remaster it – where the original game was there as you remember playing it, but seen through today’s technology.” That is the studio’s description of its intent, rather than an independent technical classification.
Bethesda said work began in 2021 and involved remastering art, animation, effects, and parts of the world, recording some new voices alongside the originals, and updating systems while preserving the core game. Xbox Wire describes the release as retaining the original’s core while adding an Unreal Engine 5 visual treatment and quality-of-life changes, and says it was developed in cooperation with Virtuos. Its account also identifies the two story expansions as included.

Current platform availability
The original April 2025 release was for Xbox Series X|S, Game Pass, PlayStation 5, and PC. Bethesda later released a Nintendo Switch 2 version on August 11, 2026. Bethesda lists the two story expansions and additional DLC in that version’s standard edition.
For Switch 2, Bethesda lists handheld mode at 900p/30 FPS and docked mode at 1080p/30 FPS, along with DLSS anti-aliasing, touchscreen support, HD Rumble, gyro aiming, Joy-Con 2 controls, and GameChat. These are platform-specific published specifications, not a comparison with other versions. Bethesda also lists a Switch 2 patch dated September 17, 2026 addressing crashes and gameplay issues; updates may affect the current version and performance.
