The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered keeps the original adventure while updating its visuals, selected gameplay systems and interface. It launched on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on April 22, 2025; Bethesda announced availability on Nintendo Switch 2 for August 11, 2026. The standard edition includes both major expansions and additional DLC. Here is what Bethesda says changed—and what the published PC requirements mean for prospective players.
What changed in Oblivion Remastered?
Bethesda describes the remaster as a collaboration between Bethesda Game Studios and Virtuos. Unreal Engine 5 tools underpin its visual overhaul, which Bethesda says includes recreated characters, weapons and world objects, more detailed character models, improved lip synchronization, real-time lighting and atmospheric effects. Those are the publisher’s descriptions, not independent graphics or performance test results. Bethesda’s feature overview also discusses enhanced performance, but does not establish a universal frame rate or improvement across hardware.
Gameplay and presentation updates include sprinting, rebuilt locomotion and combat animations, additional combat sound and visual effects, hit reactions, a revised third-person perspective, interface and user-experience updates, and newly recorded dialogue. These refinements modernize how the adventure is presented and played without changing the fact that it is Oblivion at its core.
How is leveling different in Oblivion Remastered?
Bethesda says the redesigned leveling system takes inspiration from both Oblivion and Skyrim. Its launch description says the leveling systems were modified for “smoother progression and balance.” The official descriptions do not provide enough detail to establish specific formulas, thresholds or exactly how an individual character’s progression works, so claims about precise leveling behavior should be treated cautiously. Bethesda’s launch statement provides the publisher’s wording.

What the official descriptions do—and do not—establish
Bethesda’s pages explain the intended visual, gameplay and edition changes and publish platform specifications and PC requirements. They do not independently verify image quality, frame rates, stability or how the leveling redesign feels to every player. For present-day patch or troubleshooting information, consult the support page for the platform you use; Bethesda’s feature page has also surfaced a Switch 2 patch dated September 17, 2026.
