If OBS Studio cannot connect to YouTube Live over Airtel broadband, first verify the server URL, RTMPS protocol and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room. Then test OBS, security software and your local network before comparing the same setup on a phone hotspot or another ISP. A failed connection alone does not prove Airtel is blocking YouTube ingest; the cause could be the endpoint, computer, router, network path or congestion.
Start with the exact OBS error
Note the wording before changing anything. A timeout or “failed to connect” points you toward the server URL, RTMPS support or the network path. An SSL or certificate error makes the server name, protocol and port especially important. If OBS connects but drops frames or disconnects intermittently, that is different from a connection that never starts.
The OBS Project’s connection troubleshooting guide says intermittent disconnections and dropped frames indicate a network issue between the computer and the remote ingest server. That describes the connection path; it does not identify Airtel as the cause.
Verify YouTube’s URL, protocol and stream key
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and copy the server URL and stream key for the stream you are setting up. Prefer the URL shown there rather than relying on an old saved address.
- Open OBS Studio’s stream settings and put the server URL in the server field and the key in the stream key field. Check for accidental spaces or missing characters.
- Confirm the protocol. YouTube’s RTMPS instructions say both the protocol and server should be
rtmps, not justrtmp. YouTube says port 443 may be specified when the encoder supports it. - Keep the key private. Do not include it in screenshots, public posts or support messages. If it has been exposed, replace it in YouTube Live Control Room.
For reference, OBS Studio’s current YouTube service configuration lists rtmps://a.rtmps.youtube.com:443/live2 as the primary ingest URL and rtmps://b.rtmps.youtube.com:443/live2?backup=1 as the backup. These entries can change as OBS updates; use the URL in your own Live Control Room where available. See the OBS service configuration and YouTube’s RTMPS guidance.

Check OBS and local software
Try OBS network settings one at a time
Follow the OBS guide’s network checks. Leave Bind to IP at its default setting first. If you suspect an IPv4/IPv6 issue, try the IPv4-only option as a diagnostic test; if it makes no difference, restore the default. On Windows, OBS also suggests testing its Network Optimizations and TCP pacing settings. Change one setting at a time and record whether the error changes.
Test without a VPN and check security software
Temporarily disconnect a VPN and try again. If that changes the result, the VPN path may be involved. Also check whether a firewall or antivirus product is inspecting or blocking OBS’s outbound connection. Test carefully: restore your normal protection afterward, and if the test identifies interference, use a targeted OBS exception rather than leaving security disabled.

Isolate the router, Wi-Fi and cable
- Restart the modem and router, then retry.
- If you are on Wi-Fi, test a wired Ethernet connection if practical.
- Inspect or swap a suspect cable, and connect directly to the router for a test.
- Temporarily remove unnecessary switches or extenders from the path.
OBS lists cables, network cards, switches, extenders, modems and routers among possible sources of connection problems. A replacement cable is only a useful test if the existing cable or wired path is suspect; it will not fix an incorrect URL or an ISP route issue.
Compare Airtel with another network
- Keep the same computer, OBS configuration, stream settings and YouTube stream key.
- Try connecting through a phone hotspot or another ISP.
- If available, test YouTube’s backup endpoint as well as the primary one, changing only the endpoint between tests.
- Record the time and result for each attempt, including the exact error.
If the setup repeatedly fails on Airtel but works on another network, an Airtel-path issue becomes more plausible. It still does not establish whether the cause is a route, congestion, local line condition or policy. OBS lists several possible network, software and hardware causes, and the available official guidance does not verify an Airtel-specific block or outage for YouTube RTMP/RTMPS.

When to contact Airtel
If local checks do not resolve the problem, contact Airtel with useful comparisons rather than only saying OBS will not connect. Include:
- The date, time and city or locality of each failure, plus your Airtel plan details.
- The exact OBS error and the relevant OBS log.
- Whether you were using Ethernet or Wi-Fi, and what changed after restarting the modem/router.
- Whether the same computer and OBS setup worked on a hotspot or another ISP.
- Which YouTube endpoint you tested and whether the backup behaved differently.
This is a practical evidence checklist, not a published Airtel support requirement. OBS recommends contacting the ISP when local troubleshooting does not resolve connection issues, since congestion or ISP-side changes can be outside your control.

Do not use inbound port forwarding as the first fix
OBS makes an outbound connection to YouTube’s ingest service. The official guidance here points to checking the RTMPS URL and port 443 where supported, not opening inbound router ports. Port forwarding is therefore not a routine remedy for an encoder that cannot connect.
