Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →For a 24/7 ocean-waves stream, start with OBS set to YouTube over RTMPS when available, H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and a bitrate matched to your resolution: YouTube recommends 10 Mbps for 1080p30, 6 Mbps for 720p60, or 4 Mbps for 720p30. For a mostly static waves scene, 720p30 is a sensible first test if the source, encoder and upload connection can sustain it. Test the complete video and audio before going public, and monitor stream health: no setting can guarantee an uninterrupted stream.
Recommended OBS settings for ocean waves
In OBS, select YouTube as the service and use RTMPS if it is available in your setup. These are starting settings based on YouTube’s encoder recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular computer or connection will hold the stream continuously.
| OBS setting | Starting value | How to apply it |
|---|---|---|
| Service and protocol | YouTube; RTMPS when available | Use the YouTube service in OBS and choose the secure RTMPS endpoint if offered. |
| Video codec | H.264 | Use a codec supported by both OBS and the computer’s encoder. YouTube also lists H.265/HEVC and AV1. |
| Rate control | CBR | Set the encoder’s rate control to constant bitrate. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | Use 2 seconds; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| Video bitrate | Depends on resolution and frame rate | Use the matching YouTube recommendation in the table below, then test whether the connection and encoder sustain it. |
| Audio codec | AAC or MP3 over RTMP/RTMPS | AAC is the practical default; YouTube lists both. AAC is needed for 5.1 audio, which ordinary stereo ocean audio does not require. |
| Stereo audio | 44.1 kHz, 128 kbps | Set the sample rate and audio bitrate in OBS’s audio and output settings. |
| Automatic reconnect | Enabled | Enable OBS automatic reconnect and choose a sensible retry interval. OBS documentation does not prescribe one universal interval. |
Match bitrate to the picture
| Output | YouTube’s H.264 recommendation | When to try it |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p30 | 10 Mbps | Use when the source has useful 1080p detail and the encoder and upload can sustain the rate. |
| 720p60 | 6 Mbps | Use when smoother motion matters and the system and connection can sustain 60 fps. |
| 720p30 | 4 Mbps | A practical first test for a mostly static waves view if the source is suitable. |
These are YouTube-recommended encoder bitrates, not required internet-plan speeds or measured results for your setup. YouTube recommends running an upload speed test. Leave enough headroom for a stable connection rather than selecting a bitrate solely because a speed test briefly reached it. For ocean footage, 30 fps may be adequate; that is a content-based starting judgment, not a YouTube rule. Choose 60 fps only if the motion benefits from it and both encoding and upload remain stable.
Set up OBS and connect your YouTube stream
- Prepare the scene. Add the ocean video and audio sources you intend to use, and confirm the footage and sound are present, synchronized and looping as intended. Check for gaps, clicks, clipping, silence, and unwanted microphone or desktop audio.
- Configure the encoder. In OBS, open Settings and configure the video output for the chosen resolution and frame rate. In the streaming encoder settings, use H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval and the matching bitrate from the table. Set stereo audio to AAC, 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps.
- Connect the channel. In YouTube Live Control Room, obtain the stream key and enter it in OBS’s YouTube stream setup. Treat the key like a password: it tells the encoder where to send the feed. Do not share or publish it. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update OBS with the replacement.
- Test privately or unlisted. Run a test with similar audio and video motion. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages, then verify playback on the channel or watch page and on a mobile device.
- Start with time to troubleshoot. YouTube’s encoder tips recommend setting up an encoder at least two hours before a scheduled event and starting it 15 minutes beforehand. For a continuous ambient stream, use the same principle: allow time to inspect the full preview and resolve problems before relying on it.
- Monitor the stream. Keep an eye on OBS, the connection, audio and YouTube stream status. If you are keeping a local archive, confirm that the file is growing and inspect its integrity.
YouTube automatically transcodes live streams into multiple playback formats, so creators generally do not need to encode separate viewer resolutions. The incoming feed still needs a stable connection and a healthy encoder.

What makes a 24/7 stream fragile
OBS settings alone do not make a stream immune to interruptions. The computer, power, internet connection, source media and YouTube delivery can each fail. Automatic reconnect can help OBS resume after a disconnection, but it cannot prevent every outage or replace monitoring. Choose settings your equipment can sustain over time, and confirm that recovery works in a test before leaving the stream unattended.
Do not assume that a 24/7 label establishes a maximum broadcast duration, archive-retention period or restart schedule. Those details are not established here; check current YouTube guidance for your specific broadcast and archive needs.

Copyright and monetization checks
Use footage and audio you have the rights to stream. The fact that a video depicts ocean waves does not establish permission to use its footage, music or sound recording. Check the applicable licenses and keep evidence of permission where relevant.
Repeated prerecorded content does not by itself establish whether a channel is eligible for monetization. YouTube’s monetization outcome depends on current policy and the channel’s content; do not assume that a long-running stream qualifies or that it is automatically ineligible. Review YouTube’s current rules before relying on revenue from a continuous broadcast.

Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Stream health reports unstable delivery or viewers see buffering | The upload connection cannot sustain the configured bitrate, or it fluctuates. | Run an upload speed test, lower the bitrate or output demand, and test again while watching stream health. |
| OBS disconnects from YouTube | A network interruption, encoder interruption or stream-key problem. | Check the connection and OBS automatic reconnect; confirm the key in Live Control Room is current. If exposed, reset the key and replace it in OBS. |
| Video stutters or the computer struggles | The selected resolution, frame rate or encoding workload exceeds what the system sustains. | Try a lower output demand, such as 720p30, and repeat a full test. No specific minimum hardware specification is established for this use case. |
| Audio is silent, clipped or has gaps | A muted or incorrect source, accidental extra audio input, or a problem in the source file. | Check OBS audio meters and source routing, listen to the test playback, and inspect the loop boundaries for silence or clicks. |
| Playback looks different from the source | YouTube’s live transcoding or an incoming feed that does not match the intended resolution and frame rate. | Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, then verify OBS output settings and test playback on another device. |
