YouTube recommends 10 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30 or 12 Mbps at 1080p60. Test from the computer and network you will use, and monitor YouTube stream health and OBS connection statistics before relying on the setup.
Start with the connection you actually have
Airtel’s plan speeds are advertised as “up to” maxima, and plan availability varies by location. Neither an advertised tier nor a download-speed figure establishes the sustained upload available to your OBS computer. Airtel’s broadband terms also describe a 3333 GB monthly fair-usage-policy threshold, after which speed may be reduced to 1 Mbps; the terms say Airtel may amend the FUP. Check the current plan details and terms for your market before planning a long broadcast. Airtel broadband plans · Airtel broadband terms
Measure upload at the streaming computer, using the wired or wireless path you intend to keep during the broadcast. Run the test when household traffic is representative, and account for other devices that may use the connection. Choose a bitrate below the stable capacity with room for normal fluctuations and other upload traffic; this headroom is a practical safeguard, not a fixed percentage guaranteed by Airtel or YouTube.
Recommended OBS settings for YouTube
For H.264, use YouTube’s bitrate table as a starting point. These are recommended video bitrates; allow additional capacity for audio and other network use. Select only a codec supported by your chosen OBS encoder and YouTube ingest workflow. YouTube supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 over RTMP/RTMPS, and recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. Consult YouTube’s current guidance for AV1 or H.265 ranges, as those values and available encoder options may change. YouTube encoder settings and live streaming guidance

- Rate control: CBR.
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Audio: AAC or MP3 are listed for RTMP/RTMPS; YouTube recommends 128 Kbps stereo audio.
- Bitrate: Set the video bitrate for your selected resolution and frame rate only if your measured connection can sustain it, with capacity left for audio and other upload use.
In OBS, open Settings → Output and configure the streaming encoder’s rate control, bitrate, and keyframe interval. The exact encoder choices depend on the hardware and software available on your computer. Set the stream resolution and frame rate in Settings → Video; choose a target that suits both the content and the connection rather than increasing resolution by default.
Set up and test the broadcast
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the broadcast and copy its stream key. In OBS, enter the key in the streaming service configuration. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- In OBS, select a YouTube-compatible encoder and apply the CBR, keyframe, audio, resolution, frame-rate, and bitrate choices above. Use RTMPS where available in the YouTube ingest options.
- Start a test with representative movement and audio. YouTube advises testing before going live and matching the test’s audio and movement to the intended stream.
- Check YouTube’s stream-health status and OBS connection statistics. Look for dropped frames or connection problems, not just whether OBS says it is streaming.
- If network frames drop, investigate the connection and local network first. OBS recommends connection troubleshooting, including trying a different server. Raising encoder bitrate will not repair an unstable connection and may make it harder to sustain.
What a 24/7 run needs beyond bitrate
Estimate monthly data use
A continuous broadcast consumes data according to its combined audio and video bitrate and duration. Estimate usage from the bitrate you actually plan to send, and compare it with the applicable Airtel FUP and billing cycle. The 3333 GB threshold and possible 1 Mbps reduction are described in Airtel’s terms, but Airtel says the FUP may be amended, so verify the current terms rather than assuming “unlimited” means there is no threshold.

Plan for interruptions and YouTube rules
A stable OBS setup and Fiber connection do not establish guaranteed uptime. Monitor the stream, and verify YouTube’s current rules for maximum broadcast duration and archiving before relying on an uninterrupted or indefinite broadcast; the cited YouTube encoder guidance does not establish a current maximum duration.
Use content you have the right to stream
Before leaving a broadcast running, check that you have the rights to all video, music, and other material in it, and review YouTube’s current live-stream and monetization policies. A long duration or a loop does not itself establish permission to use copyrighted material or make reused content eligible for monetization. Stream health is a technical status, not a copyright or policy clearance.

Common problems and what to check
- YouTube reports poor stream health: Recheck the selected bitrate against sustained upload from the OBS machine. Check for competing household uploads, then retest with the intended content and audio.
- OBS reports dropped frames: Treat this as a network path issue to investigate. Check local connectivity and other network use; OBS suggests connection troubleshooting such as trying a different server. Do not raise bitrate as the first response.
- The stream works briefly but fails during a long run: Check whether network use or service conditions changed, and review your current Airtel plan terms and FUP. A plan’s advertised maximum is not evidence of sustained performance at your address.
- The stream is stable but image or audio quality is poor: Confirm the intended resolution, frame rate, encoder support, and audio settings in OBS; then test the appropriate YouTube bitrate for that format without exceeding sustainable upload.
- The stream stops or cannot be archived as expected: Check YouTube’s current continuous-broadcast, duration, and archiving rules. The encoder settings alone do not guarantee indefinite broadcasting or an archived recording.
