For a passive 24/7 YouTube loop, leave OBS’s Stream Delay disabled. It adds an encoder-side delay; it does not make a stream more reliable. Set YouTube’s separate stream-latency option to Normal when viewer stability matters more than real-time interaction. If you enable OBS delay for a specific production need, test the actual viewer delay and recovery behavior first.
OBS Stream Delay and YouTube latency are different settings
OBS Stream Delay
In OBS, open Settings → Advanced → Stream Delay. This setting delays the outgoing broadcast from the encoder. OBS documents the control but does not prescribe a standard delay duration for a continuous YouTube loop. Leave it off unless you have a specific moderation, synchronization, or production reason to add delay. [OBS Project: OBS Studio Overview Guide]
YouTube Stream latency
YouTube’s stream-latency setting controls how long captured video takes to appear to viewers. Configure it in the stream settings in YouTube Live Control Room. The platform describes Normal latency as suitable for non-interactive streams and the option with the lowest viewer buffering. Lower-latency modes can make interaction more immediate, but may increase buffering; check the current mode details and any resolution constraints in Live Control Room before changing them. [YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings]
For a loop of prerecorded video without live audience interaction, Normal is generally the sensible YouTube choice. Don’t add OBS delay just because the stream runs continuously: delay does not fix dropped frames, connection interruptions, or other reliability problems.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set a stable encoder configuration
Use YouTube’s current encoder recommendations as a starting point, then choose settings your encoder and stable upload connection can sustain. For RTMP or RTMPS, YouTube lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video; CBR encoding; up to 60 fps; and a recommended keyframe interval of 2 seconds, not exceeding 4 seconds. YouTube recommends AAC or MP3 audio and RTMPS where supported. YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple output formats for different devices and network conditions. [YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions]
| H.264 resolution and frame rate | Published minimum | Published recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s published H.264 values, not a guarantee that your encoder, content, or ISP connection will remain stable at the recommended bitrate. The current YouTube table includes separate H.265 and AV1 values too. Base your choice on stable upload capacity, not download speed or a brief peak, and check YouTube’s table when configuring the stream.

Prepare OBS and YouTube for unattended streaming
- Enable recovery in OBS. In Settings → Advanced, configure Automatic Reconnect. It can help OBS resume after a connection loss, but it does not guarantee viewers will see uninterrupted video. [OBS Project: OBS Studio Overview Guide]
- Leave Stream Delay off. In Settings → Advanced → Stream Delay, keep it disabled for a passive loop unless a defined production requirement calls for delay.
- Match bitrate to the connection. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom; account for both primary and backup streams if applicable. OBS’s troubleshooting guide suggests 75% of total upload speed as a starting point when diagnosing a bitrate that cannot be sustained. That OBS figure is troubleshooting guidance, not a universal setting. [YouTube Help: Streaming tips; OBS Project: Stream Connection Troubleshooting]
- Test before relying on it. Use representative audio and motion, check the YouTube preview and stream-health messages, and test startup, playback, reconnection, and recovery after a planned network interruption. YouTube also recommends testing before going live and describes testing backup-encoder failover. [YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions; YouTube Help: Streaming tips]
- Plan how you will monitor it. Check OBS stats and logs and YouTube stream health. Connection trouble can involve the route to the ingest server, local network, security software, VPN, or other system factors. Change one variable at a time; toggling Stream Delay is not a connection fix. [OBS Project: Stream Connection Troubleshooting]
Plan an archive separately
YouTube’s documented automatic-archive condition applies to streams under 12 hours. A continuous 24-hour broadcast exceeds that condition, so do not assume YouTube will create a complete automatic replay. Decide whether to record locally, split the broadcast into segments, or use another archive workflow, and verify current behavior in Live Control Room. [YouTube Help: Archive live streams]
Troubleshooting common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| Dropped frames or an unstable stream | The connection to the ingest server is unstable, or the selected bitrate is higher than the connection can sustain. | Check OBS stats and logs, then reduce video bitrate and retest. Review local network conditions, VPN and security software, and leave upload headroom. |
| Viewers see buffering | The chosen YouTube latency mode may prioritize lower delay over playback stability, or viewers’ connections may vary. | For a passive loop, use Normal latency and check stream health. Lower-latency modes trade more immediate playback for a greater risk of buffering. |
| OBS reconnects but viewing is interrupted | Automatic Reconnect can help OBS resume, but it does not ensure seamless viewer playback. | Test a planned interruption and observe both OBS recovery and YouTube playback. Keep a monitoring and recovery plan rather than relying on the setting alone. |
| No complete replay appears after a 24-hour stream | YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours, not a complete automatic archive for a continuous 24-hour broadcast. | Use a separate local recording or segmented-broadcast workflow, and confirm current archive behavior in Live Control Room. |
