For a 24/7 real-estate tour channel that needs camera inputs, property details, maps, title cards, and branded overlays, OBS Studio is the more practical default. Its scenes and sources are designed for composing those elements and making changes through a graphical interface. FFmpeg is worth considering when the show is already a defined, scriptable media pipeline and you can build and supervise that pipeline yourself. If your channel only needs to loop a prepared video, either may work; the right choice depends on your sources, operator, computer, and connection.
OBS or FFmpeg: which suits a 24/7 real-estate tour stream?
| What matters | OBS Studio | FFmpeg |
|---|---|---|
| Visual layout | OBS scenes combine sources such as video devices, images, text, and media, making it a natural fit for a composed tour layout. See the OBS Studio Overview Guide and Sources Guide. | FFmpeg can be part of an encoding pipeline, but the available official documentation here does not establish a comparable visual-production workflow. Choose it only if you can validate the pipeline you need. |
| Looping tour media | A Media Source can loop a local file. A VLC Video source can loop a playlist if VLC is installed and compatible with OBS’s bitness. See OBS Media Sources. | A script-based loop may suit an automated pipeline, but verify the loop behavior for your actual input rather than assuming a particular command or option will work. |
| Operator workflow | Graphical controls and scenes make it easier to switch between properties, camera views, maps, and information cards during a broadcast. | Best considered when encoding and process control are already handled through scripts and the operator is comfortable maintaining them. The available evidence does not support a detailed feature-by-feature technical comparison. |
| Recovery and reliability | OBS documents an automatic reconnect option, but reconnect controls do not guarantee uninterrupted streaming. Plan how to detect and respond to a prolonged outage. | Automation alone does not establish reliable recovery or uninterrupted YouTube ingest. Test the complete pipeline, including failure handling. |
| YouTube ingest requirements | Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance and test stream health. | Use the same YouTube ingest guidance; the encoder choice does not change the platform’s requirements. |
OBS is the practical starting point when the program needs a deliberate visual layout or occasional live changes. FFmpeg is a reasonable candidate when the production is a prepared, repeatable pipeline and you can test its specific inputs, encoding, destination, and recovery behavior. Neither choice removes the need for a capable host computer, a stable upload connection, or an operational plan.
Set YouTube ingest settings before building the show
YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. It lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingestion, supports up to 60 fps, and lists AAC or MP3 audio. Confirm that your chosen encoder and workflow support the codec you intend to send.
H.264 bitrate examples
For H.264 video, YouTube’s current guidance, accessed October 3, 2026, recommends 14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are recommendations for those specified output settings, not guarantees about the finished picture. YouTube’s settings page gives separate recommendations and minimums for other resolutions, frame rates, and codecs; consult its table for your exact output rather than applying these two figures to every stream.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Your upload connection must sustain the selected stream. YouTube advises running a speed test and choosing a quality that works reliably on the available connection. Test using representative motion and audio from the actual tour, then watch stream health and messages during the broadcast. A property walkthrough with panning camera shots may behave differently from a static title card, so test the demanding parts of the program.
Build a looping tour in OBS
- Plan the program. Decide whether the channel will show live camera inputs, prerecorded walkthroughs, or a mix. Sketch the scenes you need—for example, an opening slate, a tour, property details, a map, and a closing or transition card. Gather the media and text before configuring sources.
- Create scenes and sources. In OBS, use scenes to represent the visual layouts and add sources for the relevant video devices, images, text, or media. Arrange and check each scene in the preview. The overview and sources guide describe this scene-and-source model.
- Add a repeating video or playlist. Add a Media Source for a local tour video and enable looping in its source properties. For a playlist, use the VLC Video source; VLC must be installed, and its installation must match OBS’s bitness. Consult the Media Sources guide for source behavior.
- Configure the output. Enter the YouTube stream key in OBS’s streaming setup and set the output to match the intended resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, CBR, and keyframe interval. In YouTube Live Control Room, use the stream’s ingest destination and current setup instructions. Treat the key as private: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Test the full program before going live. Run a test with the actual audio, movement, transitions, and representative stream length. Check that the playlist or media source reaches its loop boundary cleanly, audio does not cut or drift in an unacceptable way, overlays remain legible, and the expected scenes appear. Also test what happens after OBS or a source is restarted.
- Set up recovery and monitoring. OBS’s overview documents an automatic reconnect option. Enable it and test a brief interruption, but decide separately who or what will notice an extended outage and restore the feed. Monitor YouTube’s stream health and messages while live; reconnect settings are not an uptime guarantee.
Using FFmpeg instead
FFmpeg is a plausible option if the production is already a defined media pipeline and you want scriptable encoding or process control. It is less suited as a quick recommendation for a visually composed show when you need to arrange tour footage, property information, maps, and overlays through an operator-friendly interface.

The exact FFmpeg command depends on the media input, chosen codec and settings, and YouTube ingest destination. The available evidence does not establish a tested command for this channel, so do not copy a generic recipe into a 24/7 production without verifying it against your actual file, output settings, stream key, RTMPS destination, and failure plan. Run an end-to-end test and confirm the stream is healthy in YouTube before relying on it.
Keep a 24/7 broadcast operational
- Test the media, not just the connection. Include representative movement and sound, and check loop transitions, source restarts, and audio continuity.
- Match quality to sustained upload capacity. A speed test is a useful input, but observe the live stream under realistic conditions and reduce output demands if the connection cannot sustain them.
- Make recovery observable. A reconnect feature helps with some interruptions; it does not tell you that a feed has been down too long or guarantee the broadcast resumes. Assign monitoring and a response path.
- Keep the stream key secure. Store it only in the encoder or service that needs it, and replace it if it is exposed.
- Check content rights and channel rules. Use footage, music, images, maps, and other material you have permission to broadcast. A looping or continuous format does not make copyrighted material safe to use, and streaming reused material does not by itself establish eligibility for monetization. Check current YouTube policies for your channel and content.
Or let it run in the cloud
