Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchIf your OBS stream appears stuck at 30 fps, first check Settings > Video > Common FPS Value. Then verify the frame rate of your source, whether OBS can render and encode your scene at the selected rate, and what YouTube says it received in Live Control Room. A 30-fps option in the viewer playback menu alone does not prove OBS sent a 30-fps signal.
1. Set the frame rate OBS is meant to send
In OBS, open Settings > Video and inspect Common FPS Value. Set it deliberately to your target—such as 60 fps—instead of assuming that a game, camera, or capture source setting controls OBS output. OBS says this value should match the desired output frame rate: OBS Studio Overview Guide.
Also check Output (Scaled) Resolution. OBS’s canvas resolution and scaled output resolution are separate settings; the scaled output is what the stream sends. If you change the target FPS or scaled resolution, test the actual scene and motion you plan to stream.
2. Confirm the source and capture path can supply it
Check the frame-rate setting and reported capability of the input you use: a camera, capture source, game-capture path, or other video source. Compare that with OBS’s selected output rate. A 30-fps limit or setting anywhere in the input path can leave the stream with 30-fps motion even when OBS is set to 60.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Check the source’s own configuration and status rather than relying only on the game’s displayed frame rate.
- For a capture chain, check each relevant input and connection setting for a 30-fps selection or limit.
- Do not assume a camera or capture device supports a particular rate without checking its specifications and configuration.
3. Check whether OBS can render and encode the scene
Rendering a scene uses GPU resources, and OBS identifies GPU overload or a GPU bottleneck as a common reason it cannot keep up. Higher output resolution and frame rate increase workload. Test a representative scene, including fast motion and the overlays or sources you normally use, and check OBS’s rendering and encoding performance indicators. OBS’s troubleshooting guidance covers GPU bottlenecks and reducing output demands: Encoding Performance Troubleshooting.
If OBS cannot sustain the requested rate, try these adjustments one at a time and test again:

- Simplify the scene by disabling sources or effects you do not need.
- Reduce the output resolution, the frame rate, or both until OBS can maintain a stable stream.
- If encoding load is the issue, consider a hardware encoder supported by your operating system, GPU, and OBS version. Hardware encoding availability and support vary; see OBS Hardware Encoding.
OBS recommends reducing frame rate if 60 fps is not working. A steady 30-fps stream is preferable to an unstable 60-fps target; that fallback is about your system’s ability to deliver the stream, not a YouTube rule.
4. Verify the incoming stream in YouTube Live Control Room
Test ahead of the stream and inspect stream health, messages, and the incoming resolution and frame rate in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube normally detects incoming resolution and frame rate. A custom stream key can allow manual stream-resolution selection, so check the settings associated with the key you are using.

Compare YouTube’s detected input properties with OBS’s output settings and performance indicators. If YouTube detects 30 fps, revisit OBS output, the source, and rendering or encoding load. If YouTube detects 60 fps, OBS sent a 60-fps input even if a viewer’s playback menu offers or selects a 30-fps rendition.
5. Check encoder settings without treating bitrate as an FPS switch
YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS encoder guidance supports incoming frame rates up to 60 fps, but that ceiling does not guarantee every OBS setup can deliver 60 reliably. Its documented settings include the following: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

- Video codec: H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1.
- Bitrate encoding: CBR.
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Other recommended settings: progressive scan, square pixels, two B-frames, one reference frame, and CABAC.
- SDR color: Rec. 709 color space and 8-bit depth.
For H.264 live ingestion, YouTube’s current encoder settings page lists these recommended bitrates. They are recommendations for the incoming live stream, not guaranteed minimum connection speeds. Use the row for your selected format and codec; YouTube lists separate recommendations for AV1/H.265 and H.264.
| Input format | YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
These figures are from YouTube’s live encoder settings page, accessed in 2026. Match bitrate to the chosen resolution, frame rate, and codec, and make sure your connection can sustain the outgoing stream. Increasing bitrate by itself does not change OBS’s output FPS.

6. Interpret the viewer’s playback menu correctly
YouTube transcodes incoming live streams into multiple playback resolutions, frame rates, and bitrates. The options a viewer can select describe available playback renditions; they are not a direct reading of the frame rate OBS sent. Check YouTube’s detected incoming properties in Live Control Room before concluding that OBS output was limited to 30 fps. See OBS Transcodes / Transcoding.
7. Troubleshoot the likely causes
| What you observe | What to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| OBS is set to 30 fps | Settings > Video > Common FPS Value | Select the intended output rate and run a test. |
| OBS is set to 60 fps, but YouTube detects 30 | Source or capture-path limits; OBS rendering and encoding indicators; active stream-key settings | Check for a 30-fps input setting, reduce scene or output demands if OBS cannot keep up, and verify the custom stream key’s resolution selection. |
| YouTube detects 60 fps, but a viewer sees 30 fps | The selected playback rendition | Check the incoming properties in Live Control Room; YouTube creates multiple playback renditions. |
| OBS cannot sustain the 60-fps target | GPU/rendering or encoding load and output resolution | Simplify the scene, reduce output resolution or FPS, or consider a compatible hardware encoder. |
| Stream health reports problems | Live Control Room messages and the outgoing encoder configuration | Follow the reported issue, verify CBR and keyframe interval, and test again before the event. |
Or let it run in the cloud
