Octogeddon makes its destruction funny by giving a world-ending mission to a mutant octopus whose tentacles become an arsenal of animal-based weapons. The joke is built into the premise: grow more arms, equip them, then take the increasingly absurd creature into battles against enemies and bosses.
Why Octogeddon’s destruction is funny
The comic contrast is the hook. Octogeddon casts the player as a massive mutant octopus bent on destroying the world, then turns its tentacles into the tools for doing it. Rather than a conventional weapon loadout, the creature grows arms and attaches different animals as weapons. The result is a deliberately ridiculous image: a sea monster spinning into combat with an ever-changing collection of living armaments.

The game’s official Steam description calls it a “Spin-Em-Up,” asking, “You’ve played Shoot-Em-Ups, but have you ever played a brand new genre of game called Spin-Em-Up?” That phrase is publisher copy, but it neatly signals the central gag: the familiar action-game premise is recast around an octopus and its rotating, weaponized limbs.
How Octogeddon’s tentacle weapons work
The basic loop, as described by Nintendo, is to grow tentacles, attach different animals as weapons to the arms, and choose upgrades. Those choices shape the creature’s capabilities as it faces varied enemies and boss battles. The humor comes from the escalation: the player is not simply steering an octopus through a city, but building a stranger and more heavily armed version of it as the destruction continues.

Nintendo’s product description calls the game “Ridiculously fun and ridiculously ridiculous!!” That is promotional language rather than an independent verdict about how every player will respond. It does, however, make the intended tone unmistakable: Octogeddon leans into absurdity instead of presenting its destruction as serious spectacle.

Octogeddon’s official descriptions establish its unusual weapon system, upgrade choices, enemies, and boss fights. They do not establish a measurable consensus that its humor works for all players, so “hilarious” is best understood as a description of the game’s comic premise and tone rather than a universal review score. The appeal is in the image and escalation: an octopus arms itself with animals and spins its way through a world-destruction campaign.
