Kojima Productions has described OD as a separate project made with Xbox Game Studios, intended to test players’ fear and blur the boundaries between games and film. Are OD and P.T. the same project?
No. The available announcements and reporting do not establish a direct narrative or commercial relationship between OD and P.T. Kojima Productions announced OD as its own project with Xbox Game Studios in December 2023. Windows Central uses P.T.—a cancelled project—as a point of comparison for OD’s psychological-horror tone, but that comparison does not confirm shared story, mechanics, rights, or development lineage. What is OD trying to be?
Kojima Productions’ announcement describes OD as exploring “testing your fear threshold” and “what it means to OD on fear,” while blurring the boundaries of gaming and film. Kojima also said the team was working with Xbox Game Studios’ cloud gaming technology to attempt “a new form of media.” Those statements describe the project’s ambition, not a confirmed genre label or a playable feature list. In an English translation of an ananweb interview quoted by Windows Central in December 2025, Kojima said viewers might think the trailer showed “normal horror,” but that the project was “still unprecedented.” This reinforces the distinction between OD’s stated ambition and what can be verified about its actual play: the sources do not establish its mechanics. How do their identities and collaborators differ?
OD was announced as a Kojima Productions project partnered with Xbox Game Studios. The announcement named filmmaker Jordan Peele as one of several storytellers, and identified Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier in lead roles at the time. The announcement did not explain their characters or establish the final cast structure.
P.T. serves here as a reference point for comparison, not as a confirmed part of OD’s production. The available coverage characterizes P.T. as a cancelled project; it does not provide enough primary documentation for a full account of its gameplay, release history, or availability.

What is known about Xbox, cloud technology, and platforms?
Xbox announced a partnership with Kojima Productions in June 2022 for a game that would leverage cloud power. Kojima Productions later identified OD as the project associated with that partnership. The announcement supports a cloud-technology ambition, but does not explain how cloud technology will affect play or whether it will be required. What has Kojima disclosed about development?
In an October 2026 GamesRadar+ report on his Koji10 radio remarks, Kojima was quoted as saying, “This time I don’t want to reveal much,” and, “this doesn’t mean we haven’t made the game. I want to keep quiet and release it.” The report said shooting had resumed in June and would continue through year-end, with ADR work expected to continue into 2027. What remains unknown?
- OD’s release date and final platforms.
- Its pricing, physical edition, detailed story, and final mechanics.
- Whether cloud functionality will be required, and precisely how it will affect the experience.
- Any narrative, commercial, or development connection to P.T.
Until Kojima Productions or Xbox provides more detail, treating OD as “the next P.T.” goes beyond what has been confirmed. The meaningful comparison is limited to their association with Kojima and an experimental approach to horror; a gameplay comparison is not yet supported.
