oldsetup.dll is a setup-support file associated with IVT Corporation’s IVT setup program. If Windows reports that oldsetup.dll is missing, not found, or could not be loaded, repair or reinstall the original IVT, BlueSoleil, or Bluetooth-dongle package instead of copying a random DLL into a Windows system folder.
The safest fix is to identify which installer requested the file, remove any incomplete installation, and run the complete installer from the original licensed media or the Bluetooth adapter manufacturer’s support package.
Before fixing the error
Record the exact details shown by Windows:
- The application or installer name
- The full path displayed in the error
- Whether the error appears during setup or when launching an installed program
- Your Bluetooth adapter or dongle model
- Your Windows version
- Whether antivirus recently quarantined a file
- Whether the issue began after uninstalling BlueSoleil, cleaning temporary files, or copying an installer
The context determines the correct repair. An error during setup usually means the installer source is incomplete or blocked. An error when launching BlueSoleil usually means the installed application is incomplete or damaged.
Fix 1: Reinstall the complete IVT or Bluetooth package
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
This is the most likely solution. oldsetup.dll appears to belong to old IVT setup technology used by BlueSoleil and some bundled Bluetooth-dongle installers. The file should normally be restored as part of that application’s installer, alongside its other setup files.

If you still have the original installer
- Disconnect the Bluetooth dongle.
- Open Settings with Windows key + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find BlueSoleil, the dongle software, or the relevant OEM Bluetooth package.
- Select the three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Open the original installer folder or insert the original installation media.
- Look for
Setup.exe,setup.dll, CAB files, and other files that belong to the same package. - Right-click
Setup.exeand select Run as administrator. - Complete the installation.
- Restart Windows again.
- Reconnect the Bluetooth dongle only after Windows has loaded.
Do not copy only oldsetup.dll out of the installer. Setup files, CAB archives, configuration files, and drivers must come from the same package. Mixing a DLL from one release with an installer from another can produce a different loading or installation error.
If the package is on removable media
Copy the entire installer folder to a local folder such as C:InstallBluetooth, then run Setup.exe from there. An old installer can fail when launched directly from a damaged disc, an unreliable USB drive, or a network location.
If Windows blocks the file:
- Right-click the copied installer folder.
- Select Properties.
- On the General tab, look for an Unblock checkbox.
- Select Unblock, if present.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Run
Setup.exeas administrator again.
If the original installer is unavailable
Obtain the complete package from the Bluetooth adapter manufacturer, the computer manufacturer, or verified original media. Match the adapter model and the package intended for that device. Do not download an isolated oldsetup.dll file from a DLL download site.
There is no verified current official IVT download page for the exact standalone oldsetup.dll binary. The correct source is the complete application or driver package, not a loose replacement file.
How to tell whether this worked
The installation should complete without the missing-file message. After restarting, check whether the Bluetooth software opens and whether the adapter appears in Windows.
If the same error returns during setup, continue with Fix 2. If it appears only when starting the installed program, use the repair or removal steps below.
Fix 2: Repair or remove the damaged application
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
A partial uninstall or interrupted update can leave an application pointing to files that no longer exist.
Repair through Windows Settings
- Press Windows key + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find BlueSoleil or the related Bluetooth application.
- Select its three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Try opening the application again.
The Repair option is not available for every desktop program.

Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Antivirus software may quarantine an installer component. This can make setup report that oldsetup.dll is missing even though the file was present originally.
- Open the Start menu.
- Search for Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Expand any detection associated with the Bluetooth installer or its folder.
- Confirm that the detected file came from trusted original media or a verified manufacturer package.
- Restore or allow the file only when its source and digital provenance are trusted.
- Re-copy or restart the complete installer.
- Run
Setup.exeas administrator.
Do not restore a file simply because its name is oldsetup.dll. If Windows Security identifies the file as malicious or its source cannot be verified, leave it quarantined and obtain a clean installer from the hardware manufacturer.

How to tell whether this worked
The installer should no longer stop at the missing-file stage. If the file is immediately quarantined again, stop the installation and obtain a different, trusted package. Repeatedly disabling antivirus protection is not a safe substitute for verifying the installer.
Fix 4: Check the adapter, driver, and architecture
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
Old Bluetooth packages may contain 32-bit setup components even when they are being run on 64-bit Windows. A 32-bit installer can run on 64-bit Windows, but replacing it with an arbitrary 64-bit DLL is not a valid repair.
Identify the Bluetooth device
- Disconnect the Bluetooth dongle.
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Bluetooth.
- Also check Universal Serial Bus controllers and Other devices.
- Reconnect the dongle.
- Watch for the device that appears.
- Right-click it and select Properties.
- Open the Details tab.
- Select Hardware Ids from the property list.
- Record the manufacturer and device identifiers.
Use those details to locate the correct driver package from the adapter or computer manufacturer. Do not install a package merely because it mentions Bluetooth.
Remove a broken device installation
- In Device Manager, right-click the affected Bluetooth device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- If offered, select Attempt to remove the driver for this device only when you intend to reinstall a known-good driver.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the correct manufacturer package.
- Restart again and reconnect the dongle.
Update through Windows
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Bluetooth.
- Right-click the adapter.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Install any offered driver.
- Restart Windows.
If the adapter is old and the IVT package does not work on your Windows release, the safer solution may be to remove BlueSoleil and use the manufacturer’s current driver or Windows’ built-in Bluetooth stack.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

When manually checking adapter models and driver packages, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for driver issues and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies problems, while driver installation through the full version is optional. For this file, however, reinstalling the correct Bluetooth application remains the definitive fix.
How to tell whether this worked
In Device Manager, the adapter should appear without a yellow warning icon. The Bluetooth settings page should also allow devices to be discovered and paired.
Fix 5: Check compatibility settings for an old installer
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
Some IVT and BlueSoleil packages were designed for older Windows releases. A complete installer can still fail on Windows 10 or Windows 11 because the setup program or driver is obsolete.

- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Choose an older Windows version only if the package documentation or original hardware instructions identify one.
- Select Run this program as an administrator.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Run
Setup.exeagain.
Do not use compatibility mode to make an incompatible driver safe. If setup still fails, look for a newer driver from the adapter manufacturer or use a Bluetooth adapter supported by your Windows release.
Check optional Windows features only when requested
Some legacy installers explicitly require an older Windows component. Do not enable features at random because oldsetup.dll is not itself a Windows component.
If the installer names a required feature:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
optionalfeatures. - Press Enter.
- Select the specifically requested feature.
- Select OK.
- Allow Windows to download or install the component.
- Restart if prompted.
- Run the original installer again.
If no feature is named, leave Windows Features unchanged.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only if other Windows files are failing
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
oldsetup.dll is associated with a third-party IVT application, not a normal protected Windows component. DISM and System File Checker will not normally restore it. Use these commands when Windows itself is showing broader corruption, including failures in built-in applications, updates, or system services.
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for the command to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Try the IVT or Bluetooth installer again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, restart and test the original application. If it reports that no integrity violations were found, the missing file is probably not a Windows component problem.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed will not rebuild a missing third-party installer. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system issues and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies problems, while repair through the full version is optional. Reinstalling IVT or BlueSoleil remains the definitive fix for an application-owned file.
Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent system change
Time needed: 20–45 minutes
Use System Restore when the error began immediately after a driver installation, software removal, Windows change, or other system modification and a restore point exists.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the programs and drivers that will be changed.
- Select Close, then Next.
- Select Finish.
- Confirm the restore.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore normally changes system settings, drivers, and installed software without removing personal documents. It may not restore an application file that was absent from the selected restore point, so reinstall the complete IVT package if the message remains.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do not use regsvr32 for this file by default
regsvr32 registers DLLs that provide the registration entry points expected by COM or ActiveX components. A setup-support DLL is not automatically a self-registering component.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

regsvr32 oldsetup.dll
unless the original installer documentation specifically instructs you to register that file. An error from regsvr32 does not prove that the DLL is missing, and registration will not repair an incomplete installer or restore its dependencies.

Why copying oldsetup.dll to System32 is usually wrong
Windows searches the application’s own directory before system locations in many normal DLL-loading scenarios. An installer or application usually needs the matching DLL beside its other files, not a loose copy in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.
Copying a DLL into either folder can:
- Introduce a version mismatch
- Leave the application’s other files missing
- Cause dependency-loading failures
- Make future troubleshooting harder
- Create security risks through unsafe DLL search paths
The correct location is normally the original application or installer directory, restored by reinstalling the complete package.
Common causes and the matching fix
| Likely cause | Best response |
|---|---|
| Incomplete or damaged installer | Re-copy the complete package and run Setup.exe as administrator |
| Partial BlueSoleil uninstall | Remove the remaining application entry, restart, and reinstall |
| Antivirus quarantine | Review Protection history and verify the installer before restoring anything |
| Wrong dongle package | Match the adapter model and hardware identifiers |
| Old installer incompatibility | Try documented compatibility settings or use a current driver |
| Missing dependency | Repair the complete application rather than copying one DLL |
| Windows component corruption | Run DISM, then SFC, only when broader Windows problems exist |
| Recent system change | Use System Restore if an appropriate restore point exists |
Frequently asked questions
Is oldsetup.dll a Windows file?
There is no evidence that it is a standard Windows component. It is associated with IVT setup software and most strongly with older BlueSoleil or bundled Bluetooth-dongle packages.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Which program installed oldsetup.dll?
The strongest association is with IVT Corporation setup technology used by BlueSoleil and some OEM Bluetooth installers. The exact package cannot be established from the filename alone, so check the error path, installer folder, adapter model, and installed applications.
Can I download oldsetup.dll by itself?
Do not use a random DLL download. The file may be malicious, incompatible, incomplete, or missing dependencies. Obtain the complete package from original media or the adapter, computer, or software vendor.
Should I put it in System32 or SysWOW64?
Generally no. Restore it through the application’s installer. The correct file must match the rest of the IVT package, and a 32-bit setup component does not become correct merely because it is copied into a Windows system folder.
Why does the error say that the specified module could not be found?
That wording can mean that a dependency required by oldsetup.dll is missing. The named DLL may exist while another required module cannot load. Reinstalling the complete package is more reliable than replacing only the named file.
Does SFC restore oldsetup.dll?
Normally it does not. SFC repairs protected Windows components, while oldsetup.dll belongs to third-party IVT software. Use SFC after DISM only when Windows has other signs of component corruption.
Is BlueSoleil still the right solution?
Not always. If the software is obsolete or incompatible with your Windows release, uninstalling it and using the Windows Bluetooth stack or a current manufacturer-supported driver is often safer.
What should I tell technical support?
Provide the application name, Bluetooth adapter model, Windows version, exact error text, full file path, whether the error occurs during setup or launch, the installer source, and whether antivirus quarantined anything. These details distinguish a damaged installer from a driver or compatibility problem.
