If Once Human runs at a low frame rate on PC, open ESC → Settings → Graphics → Performance and lower settings such as resolution, special effects, texture quality, and rendering quality. Change one setting at a time and compare in a similar gameplay scene: the developer offers no universal best preset or guaranteed FPS gain.
Where to change graphics settings in Once Human
Press ESC, then go to Settings → Graphics → Performance. That is the location identified by the developer in its July 9, 2024 official FAQ.
For a useful comparison, note your current settings and observe performance in a repeatable situation, such as the same area and activity. Adjust one option, then revisit that situation. This makes it easier to tell whether the change helped on your PC; results can vary by scene and system.
What to lower when frame rate is low
The developer’s FAQ recommends reducing resolution, special effects or texture quality, and rendering quality. Try the adjustments incrementally rather than assuming a preset will suit every PC.

- Powered by Radeon RX 9070 XT
- WINDFORCE Cooling System
- Hawk Fan
- Server-grade Thermal Conductive Gel
- RGB Lighting
- Resolution: Lowering it is one of the developer’s suggested options. Check whether the resulting image remains clear enough at your display size.
- Special effects: Reduce effects if they are among the available controls in your game version.
- Texture quality: The FAQ specifically suggests lowering texture quality when performance is slow, including on a device that exceeds the minimum specifications.
- Rendering quality: Reduce it or test other available quality controls one at a time.
The FAQ does not establish a particular CPU or GPU bottleneck for an individual player, nor does it publish a frame-rate gain for any setting. Treat these as troubleshooting changes to test, not guaranteed fixes.
How to read Once Human’s published PC requirements
The figures below come from separate sources and should not be merged into a single definitive specification. Starry Studio’s July 2024 FAQ describes its launch-era requirements as a reference for playing at 1080p. The Steam listing accessed October 4, 2026 displays a different set of details, including storage. Neither is an independent benchmark or a promise of smooth performance in every scene.

Sources: Starry Studio’s July 9, 2024 FAQ and the Once Human Steam listing, accessed October 4, 2026. The FAQ’s “GTX 3060” designation is preserved as published rather than silently corrected. Its “For 60 fps performance” tier is a separate publisher reference, not the same as the recommended tier and not an independent guarantee of 60 fps.
Storage note
The Steam listing specifies 100 GB available storage and highly recommends an SSD. Check your PC’s interface, form factor, capacity, and free space before buying storage. The listing’s SSD recommendation is not evidence that installing the game on an SSD will increase FPS.

DLSS, XeSS, and graphics API compatibility
Upscaling and frame generation are separate features, with different documented requirements. These dated compatibility notes tell you when the options are supported; they do not rank image quality, latency, or performance across DLSS, FSR, XeSS, and native rendering.
| Feature or instruction | Documented requirement or steps | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| DLSS Super Resolution | DirectX 11 and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 Series or better graphics card | Once Human Development Team, version 1.5.2 notes, May 21, 2025 |
| DLSS Frame Generation | DirectX 12 and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 Series or better graphics card | Once Human Development Team, version 1.5.2 notes, May 21, 2025 |
| XeSS on Intel Arc B-series graphics | Update and launch the game, select DX12 as the graphics API, then restart. Intel says only FSR is available on initial load. | Intel support article, last reviewed April 29, 2025 |
Intel’s instructions are specific to Arc B-series; they should not be generalized to every Intel GPU. Game updates can change compatibility, so check the current in-game options if your version is newer than the cited notes.

How to compare available options
If your game version and hardware offer more than one rendering option, compare them on your own system rather than assuming one is best:
- Check clarity at your display’s resolution.
- Compare frame rate and consistency in similar gameplay.
- Look for visible artifacts.
- Pay attention to input feel, especially when using frame generation.
The cited sources do not provide a controlled Once Human comparison across these options, so no universal winner or quality ranking is established.
